I usually just ignore virus hoaxes, since I don't really care if my windows gets messed up. All the more fun fixing it .
Affy: your first equation was pushing it a bit, but the second one is strange but in fact makes perfect sense.

Happy Sunday everyone, Burns was most amusing, lots of Surrey Highlanders (chaps and chappesses who wear kilts but talk in cultured home counties accents, not the lilting brogue of those who inhabit the frozen wastes of the Arctic north beyond the Watford Gap Service station on the M1!) I enjoyed the freedom of wearing a sirt with a degree of acceptability (although I have no scottish antecedents whatsoever, I do enjoy whiskey and foaming pints of Heavy!) ans am just off to walk the small chaps in a gentle english drizzle. The joys of being in this green and pleasant land!

many pardons, a sirt is a skirt with a hangover!

Talking of hangovers, were there no survivors from the Meet? has anyone looked for the black boxes?

I had a great time! Met lot of people, lot of s and even some

...currently trying to recover from hotel breakfast - I was starving when I woke up, and had 4 poached eggs on toast, lots of mushrooms and fried tomatoes and bacon and and

...and surprisingly enough I have no hang-over what so ever - I rounded off with a couple of gin&tonics, and they have never given me a hang-over...

Yeah, that first equation doesn't technically work if you take into acount the laws of mathematics, but the second one is established mathematical fact, weird though it may be. I always have trouble making people believe the second one is true, especially since I usually show them the first equation first.

A chance to look behind the public labs at CLI? Just let me get a few things together and I'll be along shortly.
But first I want to know when meet pictures will be going up, and where!

Me too, I hope there's also a post article about it. (anyone got lists of attendees for my researcher count?) Does anyone know whether it did turn out wet on Saturday, as it was quite damp here [Edinburgh]?

I look forward to hearing the Professor's report, certainly. And I hope Munchers isn't too ill -- he always throws himself into these fetes, mind and liver.
OK, all backlog skippers, Affi put a thread URL in post 697. We have a very rare opportunity to accompany the founding partner of Crater Labs, Inc. into the very bowels of the labs in order to fix a broken gear. The fix sounds simple, but the excursion probably won't be. Affi and Garius are what you might euphemistically call multi-taskers. They tend to have a lot of experiments and research projects running at the same time, and what with the demands of other fee-paying jobs, they don't always get the chance to check on these projects regularly.
And now the CLI computer has had some sort of partial crash, thanks to the power interruption engendered by that broken gear, which has released controls on some experiments. I don't think they know which. I hope the Heart of Darkness isn't loose.

Munchers was last seen leaving the pub to return home with a bunch of scots in tow.
There are soem pics up already I think. The 'Aftermath' thread on the party page has some links. The scavenger hunt was fun. The photos will be online whenever the italics send the cameras off for processing. There were some cameras left over and so more photos will be around as well
Right now I'm just wanting to get some sleep after spending the afternoon looking at teh BG Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition winners at the Natural History Museum here in London. Fantasic shots of all sorts of things from all round the world. The winner, a picture of a reef shark, is amazing.

Ah yes, what a joy that first meet of mine was.
Great to see so many people I've only known from h2g2. Apologies to anyone I didn't get to meet, but I had to leave at around 9pm for the train. Otherwise I would have made my rounds.
I took some pictures, of course, but I somehow managed to buy a 40 exposure film, and I had around 20 left when I left the meet. So I'll have to take some other random pictures and get the film developed ASAP. Any specific requests anyone has? Garden, home, animals, insane younger brothers etc.?
I shall indeed write a report on it for the Post, as odd as it may seem after my recent departure form writing regularly. Ming and I are planning a joint report, which should be fun.
So, Sea. I guess the deal's off then?

OP, was it an Australian reef shark? Or perhaps an Australian shark driving a Great Barrier Reef sightseeing boat - much more dangerous. Trust me

It was the large steel grey underwater variety Loony. A truly fantastic picture.
