Morning all. Was I only here six hours ago??!? At the moment I have a kitten nibbling on my toes as I try to type. She seems to have a fetish for feet.
Lizzy, before my latest knee injury I used to ride my bike everywhere. I never really got into road cycling I am more a mountain biking type of guy. Of course living a few hours away from teh greatest mecca of mountain biking in teh wolrd (Moab Utah) helps a bit.

Thanks for the encouragement, B-17! Much appreciated!
The Grand Tour, Lil? Two years just won't go by quick enough.
Oops! I haven't supplied a description of myself, have I? Ok, I'll make one up in a tick.
Oh, and The Big C Board is finally up and running on my website! Pop on over and have a look at [usual URL]/board.

Here's my description, Lil. Sorry for the delay.
Prof. C. Tonks - Another scientific genius, and resident know-all of Infinity and Dimensional Theory. Forever rambling on about his personal trials and tribulations, and never fails to bring up his book, Post column or website in some form during normal conversation. Drinks too much foreign alcohol, and has a habit of teleporting a lot and making things appear and disappear with his hands when least expected. Looks at his watch quite frequently.

Aw, c'mon, man! What else are we going to do to stop this? Talk to them? Pah!!

Could the US maybe lend Britain some subs so we can go off and bomb Ireland. We're not fighting Irish Terrorists; we're fighting Terrorists. We just tell the Irish: we like the Irish people, but we still want to bomb your country for bombing us.
(don't flame me for being simplistic. please.)

What exactly is it you're trying to stop?
In Northern Ireland some people probably go about in fear everyday that they will be targeted. All you have had is one big attack.

Cause the US (don't know as much about Across the Pond, sorry) is always so darn good at missing civilians, eh? Look at Belgrade, baby, look at Baghdad. Ooops.

The attacks currently underway are aimed at /military/ installations and the leaders of the Taliban (sp?), i.e. The Bad Guys, OK, not the civvies.
What we aim to stop is terrorism. We do so by wiping out (yes, I'm going to say 'wiping out', so there) the leaders of these terrorist factions and regimes. We start with the greatest threat. By recent example, Bin Laden and the Taliban regime are the most dangerous we currently know of, so we're getting rid of them.
We are not 'bombing Afghanistan' - that sounds like we're just getting revenge upon that country. We're not. We're attacking the leaders. If we /do/ kill civilians, it will be as nothing to the suffering inflicted on them by their own government, the very one we're trying to destroy.
It's time to stop sitting back idly and trying to negotiate deals, because the terrorists don't think like that. We have to strike back, /at the evildoers/. For heaven's sake, we're /helping/ the Afghan people!
The reasons, I believe, as to why we are not bombing Ireland is because it is civilised. It's impossible to actually bomb military targets. There's no set bunch of Bad Guys to actualy hit. Afghanistan is, frankly, easier to split up into areas to be targetted and others not to be.
Right. Sorry. There are threads made for this argument, but if I post there, no one will read it.
Key: Complain about this post
