*Online in the morning of all times, God knows why...*
Although cracking is fsr less skilled than hacking, it has proved invaluable to me.
Without it I wouldn't have been able to 'extend' my evaluation period of Dreamweaver of Fireworks.
BTW, what category would viruses come under? Certainly not hacking, but cracking or what?

*getting tired of receiving virus warnings from friends who panic when reading about the effects, and don't bother to check them up before mailing them to as many as possible - turned out to be hoaxes - again!*

The best way to avoid viruses spread by e-mail is just not to open any e-mail from people you don't know, like advertisements and such. And never ever accept a .exe or .bat file from anyone!

Good advice, Professor.
To educate your friends, Titania, just run a significant sample of the text of the hoax through a search engine like the one related to goo (the one that they will moderate out if I mention it) and locate some reputable virus-monitoring sites.
Then copy and paste a couple of URLs into the original hoax and send it back without comment. In this way, I have nearly cured my friends, family and students from a tendency to feel responsible for the computer health of everyone they know.

Good call, Amy, never thought of that.
Morning all. Glad to see Sea has managed the manacles and shifted the shackles of the oppressive ogres.
So how goes it all today?

Chris Tonks Posted May 3, 2001
Well, sorta good, sorta bad.
Good because I'm at home on ADSL, but bad because of the reason I'm not in school - ill.

Another good thing is to turn windows scripting host off. I'm not sure where it is but doing this helps against the vbs script trojans (mellisa, I love you, etc)
32Xth Conversation at Lil's
Chris Tonks Posted May 3, 2001
Good point, that. I don't have VBS scripts running anywhere...

[Munchkin, wide eyed at the techy talk]
Did you know, according to a book I just read, that the original use of the word Geek was a circus freak who perform disguting acts for money. Sort of the "do anything to avoid starving" idea. Why it now means what it does is a bit beyond me

Sorry to hear you're not well, Chris.
I won't cast doubt on your illness by mentioning what a coincidence it is that you have just had ASDL installed Ooops, I just did.
Seriously, hope you are ok.
Blooming knackered me. Still not caught up properly. Oh well.

Hope the bad times don't last Chris. Especially for another Dreamweaver fan! Man, that thing rocks....
I've looked into hacking, but I always loose interest before I get very far. I'm little more than a neophyte in that area, really. Maybe it's time for me to look into it again....

Thanks, people.
I can assure you, B-17, that this illness is not in any way intentional.
You use Dreamweaver, Affy? Top program, that. I assume you have a website made by it?

I just wish that my hacking abilities were better. I don't consider myself a proper hacker yet at all. More a proto-hacker with programmer tendencies.
Hello, all! *said quietly so that sea's keepers don't awaken*
Matina, some hot cocoa please. Its snowing for the second day in a row here and I am starting to miss the sun... (To make things worse, it was a beautiful day on Tuesday...)

(Nice house, Lil, and nice job on the tour. You're sure that's the same kitchen?).

Morning, errr almost afternoon to you all. I am enduring an allergy attack brought on by the concentration of pollen in my house carried by the canyon winds. It happens every so often but this is the worst it has been in a while.

Sorry to hear about the allergies, Marv. With all the wet weather here in Denver, I am having similar problems. (Darn molds and fungus!) Are you getting snow there? Or is it just a later Xmas gift from Mother Nature to Colorado?

*reads Garius's card and bursts out laughing*
I'm not sure, Garius -- I keep forgetting that I've put the tea towel in its proper place and wind up looking around frantically for it. Today I scanned in some old pics I found of the house being built as well as the original idea for the layout... so the tour is UPDATED.
The people who came round this morning really liked it... and the guy is spraying the patio clean, but this has caused the pool water to turn a horrid colour. As soon as I bleach it out I'll have to update that picture too.
The biggest problem with last minute appointments is they destroy productivity for a work-at-home. Instead of getting some consulting work done I'm flying about to clean the bathroom and wait for the callers. Tomorrow morning there's the landscape doctor, then another prospective buyer, then Gretta's appointment with the vet.
Chris, sorry to hear you're not well, but I'll bet you've spent the day touring the web on your new magic carpet.

Heheh... Though I'm adamant (sp?) that I'm not ill /because/ I have ADSL, I will admit that I've been on it a fair bit through the course of the day.
Gorblimey, it speeds Half-Life up a bit, doesn't it?
I'm glad the people who went round your house liked it - I knew they would.
