Asteroid Lil - Offstage Presence Posted May 1, 2001
I was just about to post when the dog began barking insistently -- turned out to be people on my front lawn looking at the house. I wouldn't let them in the main part, on principle, but let them wander inside the fence and look at the garage, and gave them the URL for the tour. They'll be back Sunday for the oppen house.
What principle? I can't get used to admitting strangers into my home just because there's a sign out front, not without an appointment.

Understandable, Lil. We call the Realtor listed on the sign when we see a house we are interested in. That way, everyone is prepared.

What my parents do too.
What ho, all!
This is probably the last time I use my dial-up service - after tomorrow, I'll be joining the broadband community!
*Goes off to The Other Place to find various links he missed...*

Cheers G7! Yeah, finally I'll be able to be online whenever I want without expecting phonecalls (the reason I'm going to have to go offline again now - my dad's expecting some).
That tour's top stuff, Lil! Nice house you've got there - who wouldn't want to buy it, eh?
Mmmm, flatscreen monitor...
*Envy. *
As I said, got to go. I might not be able to come online tomorrow, as they take up to 24 hours to fix things up at the telephone exchange, but I'll be back afterwards!
Toodlepip!

And then you get the problems while they get things wrong, muck up the billing, tell you they can't do anything about it.
Trust me, I've heard what the tech support people say about phoning BT with problems

Thanks to everyone who signed my paper. I had just enough at about an hour and twelve minutes from the time that I needed to finish it.
And, as if that wasn't quite pleasing enough, I'm in the running to be one of my school's Drum Majors next year. 'Course, I have tough competition, all of whom are perfectly qualified for the job, but it's like that old saying: it's an honor just to be nominated.

You know, this silly presentation tomorrow is making me crazy. Mostly me putting pressure on myself...silly me. I know the presentation rocks, but the thing is, it is a presentation on St. Paul and his legacy, and the feminist response. Which, frankly, is a good thing. But the big thing is that the whole back row of the class are born-again/ pentecostal christians. And while I respect them, I know there are a few who have never questioned their faith, and I really want to make them look at their beliefs, examine them, question if Christianity is a good religious position for women, and if not, how can they, as women, make it better? Not that I think Christianity is a bad thing...I am one. But not a blind one. So there is that. Or am I just being way too worried about a simple class presentation, and changing the world? Jeez.
(Marv, when Fraulein G says I'm a control freak, now you know what she means...she's serious!!!)
Gw7en, dear, never lived in either one. Although I have driven through both. Does that count? I've lived in MN, MT, Arizona, and Alaska. Got a thing for the M's and A's, I guess. And you? ever lived in Arizona or Alaska?

Morning all (Wednesday).
Maybe I should have stayed in bed. Wednesday is named after the god Woden, who, like Mercury, was quick and eloquent. Will I cope?

Morning, Loony.
Red, sounds like you've got the presentation well in hand. Sadly, I doubt that the back row will be overly affected, however good it is. In my experience, people like those feel safer not questioning anything. Sad but true. You'll have to let us know how it goes though. And just imagine us cheering you on, whatever the other responses you get.
I've been to Arizona - recently even! - and my parents are thinking about moving to Phoenix. My uncle lives in Alaska - as do my future in-laws - and we were thinking about moving up there a couple years back. (Basically until the in-laws did so.) Hmmm. I'm willing to let OK and CO count for you if those count for me.
Well, the day's almost over and I'm off for home. I think I'll watch the St Louis/Dallas hockey game and cheer for St Louis. (And not entirely just because Dallas has knocked us out of the playoffs the last two years running...)
Have good nights/days/mornings/whatevers all.

Chris
I hope your installation goes OK, Ive heard a few horror stories but mine (cable modem) went without a hitch
The only thing I would say is that all the broadband services suffer from occaisional down time, so don't dump the dial up completely, its worth keeping a pay as you go modem connection as a back up.
Mind you once you have had a decent connection you'll never want to go back to an ordinary modem (despite the number of idiots on usenet who claim they are getting a worse service than with a modem).
Lil
I'm impressed by your tour, (I would buy it off you but commuting to Croydon would be a bit difficult. mind you it would give me an great excuse for being late )
BTW
In case anyone here hasn't come across it...
The next London (UK) meetup has been set for the 7th of July, but there's no more details of the plans yet.
See http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A540686 if your interested.

soeasilyamused, or sea Posted May 2, 2001
*sea walks in, shackled and handcuffed, flanked by two mean-looking prison guards, looking vaguely reminiscent of hannibal lecter- only without the face shield. she sits down, clanking loudly, and wonders if she'll be rationed some chocolate milk*
[sea] hello, all, hope you're doing better than i am...
*one of the guards elbows her, sea winces noticeably*
[sea] oh, i'd like you all to meet bosses smash and crush. they'll be... /escorting/ me around for the next week or so... i got into a bit of trouble IRL...
