what does it mean, 'to pocle'?

to pocle: verb, probably Scots, to massage the results of a test/experiment, or the procedure for running that test/experiment, such that the test/experiment is succesful. Not true cheating/lieing, as often the experiment/test is succesful, its just been run in such a way as to obscure this fact.

Please could I have a smiley - stiffdrink Matina.

Points out that the URL moderated in post 24 was for Comic Relief. Strangely enough a charity massively supported by the BBC and one to which I would gladly make a donation to (as mentioned in the post).

In the words of the BBC's Victor Meldrew " I CANNOT beleeeeve it!"

*sits on the floor, sips smiley - stiffdrink and goes "Ommmmmmmmmmm" for a minute or two.*

Affy that is brill news, really pleased. The C word is just about the scariest thing going, so beating it is just the best thing.

Phil, Joe, I'm playing with Mizolla 0.8 on SESU Lunix 7.1, with the Java Ruintime 1.3 onboard. And have been using it to post to this site since I returned the other week. Stable, no real problems yet to materialise, apart from some sites that are too Mocroosift orientated (like my bank!)

*feeling calmer now.....but the anger is bubbling under the surface.*

Its a generic academic phrase as far as I know. Most academics I know would admit to occasionally "pocling" an experiment. An exagerated form is a student getting to the end of an experiment, finding out the correct answer, going back and adjusting the measurement error made at the beginning so that the correct answer now lies within the error range.
Please note, I'm not sure of the spelling, as its not the sort of thing you right down: "This experiment was pants, but then I pocled my input parameters and proved Y. Please give me another grant."

managed to pocle many a result at college. smiley - winkeye

Little known fact, but Isaac Newton's first apple actually went up, leading to one of the first cases of pocling. Privately he later acknowledged the fact, and this first occurence led man to later seed clouds to affect the weather.

I think you could be right B-17. Mind you I've hunted through a few spellings in my dictionary, but cant find it. Definitely a term once/still? used in Glasgow.
