corrections:
Ich habe EINEN Vater...
It’s „Geschwister“ instead of „Geschwester“.
Ich habe einen Onkel NAMENS Han und einer heißt Peter.
Meine Tanten heißen Cecilia und Lishan.
Ich habe EINEN Hund namens Phoebe. Sie hat einen Apfel.
(You can also say: Ich habe einen Hund und sie heißt Phoebe.)
Don’t worry... we haven’t learned about “Fälle” yet.

NiceGuy?

In my wonderful lecture about German Articles I forgot about the plural. Here we go:
In German there’s ONE article for plural items: “die” (the)
No matter if the singular article of a word is “der” “die” oder “das” – the plural article is INVARIABLY “die”.
examples:
das Huhn, die Hühner – the chicken, the chickens
der Hund, die Hunde – the dog, the dogs
die Katze, die Katzen – the cat, the cats
Questions?

Die Huehner haben die Hunde hinter die Katzen gejagt.
The chickens chased the dogs behind the cats.
Don't ask why I wrote that!
What about possession?
EG.
I kicked my girlfriend's cat.
I promise I never have though!

Your sentence in post 88 was correct! Great!!!
“I kicked my girlfriends cat.” is too complicated. We have to learn about a few other things before.

Possessive Pronouns – Possessivepronomen
If we want to indicate that something belongs to us or somebody else, we need possessive pronouns (Possessivepronomen). In English these are “mine, your, her…”. Let’s have a look at them in German:
Example: die Katze – the cat
meine Katze – my cat
deine Katze – your cat
seine Katze – his cat
ihre Katze – her cat
seine Katze – its cat
unsere Katze – our cat
eure Katze – your cat
ihre Katze – their cat
polite/formally:
Ihre Katze – Your cat
Example: der Hund – the dog
mein Hund – my dog
dein Hund – your dog
sein Hund – his dog
ihr Hund – her dog
sein Hund – its dog
unser Hund – our dog
euer Hund – your dog
ihr Hund – their dog
polite/formally:
Ihr Hund – Your dog
Example: das Huhn – the chicken
mein Huhn – my chicken
dein Huhn – your chicken
sein Huhn – his chicken
ihr Huhn – her chicken
sein Huhn – its chicken
unser Huhn – our chicken
euer Huhn – your chicken
ihr Huhn – their chicken
polite/formally:
Ihr Huhn – Your chicken
Example: die Katzen (plural)
meine Katzen – my cats
deine Katzen – your cats
seine Katzen – his cats
ihre Katzen – her cats
seine Katzen – its cats
unsere Katzen – our cats
eure Katzen – your cats
ihre Katzen – their cats
polite/formally:
Ihre Katzen – Your cats
Example: die Hunde (plural)
meine Hunde – my dogs
.
.
.
Example: die Hühner (plural)
meine Hühner – my chickens
.
.
.
Sentences:
Meine Katze ist lieb. – My cat is nice.
Dein Hund ist schön. – Your dog is pretty.
Seine Hühner sind groß. – His chickens are big.
Unsere Katzen sind schwarz. – Our cats are black.
Eure Hunde sind alt. – Your dogs are old.
Ihre Hühner sind dumm. – Their chickens are stupid.
Would you like to form some sentences like that as well? I’ll correct them afterwards. If you have questions, just ask.

Great, Katkat!!!
Just two very small things:
It’s “Schreiben” instead of “Scheiben”.
Say „deprimiert“ or “bedrückt” instead of „niedergedrückt“. (“niederdrücken” can be translated with “to squeeze down”. So if you say that the cat is "niedergedrückt", one would think that it was knocked over or something.)

*chuckle*
The Schreiben was a typo.
Your kat COULD be knocked over! But somehow I really hope not!
Where's everyone else?

I’m afraid you’re my only student. Everybody else either doesn’t like my teaching methods, or they don’t like the language.
Oh yeah, your cat can be knocked over, but I wouldn’t call her depressed then!
Language Thing-German BEGINNERS thread
Kat - From H2G2 Posted Aug 4, 2004
No then she'd be squashed and I don't want my kat to be knocked over. Quite possibly because I don't have one!
Sigh...I like your teaching methods! In fact...the whole dept seems to have lost everyone except us! What's going on!?
Shal we continue or wait for someone to tell us that we suck?

I have gone on a sudden obsession with languages other than English, mainly German, this being a result of my recent obsession with Rammstein. Anyway... please, if any teching people come here because they've noticed a new post, teach me, teach me! We were one comic away from the end of our text book at school, and I went and read it and looked up at the back of the book all the words in it that I didn't know, so know I am done with the textbook... So now I have no other way to learn more German. *whimpers* TEACH ME!

Okay seems like I'm the only one here! Katkodl is in the middle of exams and who knows where Susanne has gone!!
What would you like to learn? I could teach you the normal things that are taught as part of school but is there a certain topic you want to do? Or vocabulary on certain topics or what?
