I stand by my statement. And if you think that you can stop me from speaking by turning your campaing negative then you are sadly mistaken senator.

Speaking of which, are we ever going to have another election? Or is Virtual Mayor a life-long position?

Siguy Posted Mar 7, 2000
Wasn't involved at all with virtual election. Here in the states every other commercial is Proposition this, and president this! Here comes another one, this ones against gay marriage. They really spent a lot of money against this one, and you can't really understand anything about what the proposition is. For all I know, they want to lower taxes for poodle owners, but instead they start talking about evil insurance companies and their twisted ways.

Hmm.. Don't know about that one.. must be a statewide issue. The latest drivel I've heard about the presidential election is the bit about the 'official stance' of the Republican party. The one where they've decided they want to ban the navy until they force all the wiccans out or at least forbid them to practice their religion. It makes my blood boil, it does.

I read most of what that said, so Wiccans are a religious group associated with witch craft due to movies? Was a bit confused by the term Pagans to describe them. If I remember my history class then the Christians used to refer to any non-christian (or even one not of their church) as Pagan. Still, I was further confused by the statement that it was one of the first issues of the Republican campaign because I have never heard of it and neither have a few people. But I am certainly no political expert, anyway thanks for showing me another issue to worry about and slowly drivel away my soul over.
I am already too busy thinking about whether we should let gay panda's get 4% off on sales tax involving poodle supplies that are purchased out of the country. I am so confused, I know that everything I read and see on TV is true, yet somehow there seems to be this seconds oppinion out there.
How can TV do this to me! How can what one advertisement says about another lieing be true if everything tv says is true!! I can't take it anymore!

<--- *points to Parade thread for those uninterested in these events *
Our primaries were today (erm yesterday ... whatever). There were no issues to vote on. They asked what party I wanted to vote under and then laughed and thought I was joking. "Hahaha! Come on.. Republican or Democrat?" the lady said. I looked at her straight-faced. "No, I'm serious," and repeated my choice. Confusion reigned at that point.. "B-b-b-but w-we have n-n-no XXXXX running!"
That really irks me. We have at least a dozen parties/platforms in this country. I am constantly hearing people tell me they like neither 'major' candidate, but feel they have to vote for the lesser of the two evils. Why, oh -why- can't people look beyond the end of their nose?

I believe people get narrow minded from trying to believe everything that TV tells them. That's why.
(Sorry, couldn't resist. Sorry)

People don't want to vote for the smaller parties because they assume that only someone from the big ones will win and are afraid they will waste their vote.

Affy: The sad part is that you're mostly right with that bit of insight.
Sig: Exactly. But if we, as a country, would get off the Dem/Rep sandtrap and look around, there -are- other, better choices.

"Uh oh, two original thought alarms in one day."
It seems to me that you are thinking too much, thinking is dangerous, especially when it is against the government. I think the coast is clear to talk about powerful secret organizations now that the "Who are They?" conversation ended so long ago.
I think that t.h.e.y shut it down. Not T.H.E.Y, I am speaking of their child corporation t.h.e.y
It is all very simple, but for real now, it is a bit odd how this country is formed.
I mean it is supposed to be anyone for president but I have never heard of someone not from the dems/reps winning.

The one year Soupy Sales ran as a joke. He nearly won. *sigh*

You're wrong, though. Republicans didn't even start running until . . . well, Abe Lincoln was the first one. There have been other presidents from other parties, but I forget what they are. I remember the "Know Nothings" but that's all.

Siguy Posted Mar 11, 2000
Well I kinda said that "I have never heard of someone not from the dems/reps winning." I didn't say that no one had, I just said that I didn't know of anyone who had. Thanks for the added info but I was just saying that right now the independant parties may win for president when hell freezes over and frogs dance on their heads. Ofcourse, the way the world is going, that could be tuesday.

Anonymouse Posted Mar 15, 2000
First, most all of them have been from the 'Know Nothings' ... but afaik, that's not an 'official' party. Of course, originally it was the Whigs(Wigs?) and whatever, the leftovers from British Heritage. (Okay, sue me.. My -mother- was the history buff, not I. )
The race has long since, however, become a race between republicans and democrats ... which is a sad state of affairs, if you ask me, or even if you don't.

Ofcourse if there were a ton of parties with an actual chance then politics would get even more complicated. The senate and house are already clogged with political agenda, imagination if there were more parties with even more agendas added to the mix. Nothing would get done, still is sad though.
Key: Complain about this post
