(I haven't posted in this story for long while so I will be very careful as not to further screw stuff up. And if I do, then it's technoyokel's fault!)
"YIKES!!!" Slade let out an uncharacteristic scream as he noticed his coat was on fire. He quickly stamped it out and reminded himself not to stand so close to the flame. For safety reasons he sat down in his chair after pushing it a few feet away from the fire. (he was burned while standing, okay, he didn't burn his coat while sitting. I just want to make it easier for the next person to understand.)

(Just out of curiosity, is this supposed to be Slade's house, a tavern, an inn, a friend's house, or what?)

Slade thought about all he knew so far, and what this job offer would mean. He glanced at a picture of a frog, a dog, two humans, and a monkey. That didn't help much. He leaned agaist the mantel, thinking.

(pretty sure he is in his office) Slade noticed a bag sitting on the floor. His assistant had bought more pictures to "lighten up the office."

Slade sat at his desk, pondering the phone call he had received last night. His brow furled as he tried to discern any glimmers of clues, but the phone call had been riddled with riddles, inuendo and inanity. He stood up and strode towards the mantle, being one to think better when staring into flame. Perhaps it was the fire's innate violence, captured within the bounds of a good, well bulit fireplace that stirred his mental facilities, or perhaps it was just the relaxation effect, but it was not this quandry that occupied him now. It was merely habit.
