Some famous people who lived in Great Baddow:
William Joyce (Lord Haw Haw) lived in Great Baddow up to 1939 before going to Germany.
Mr Watney, of Watney's Red Barrel fame (for those who remember that).
Mr D Cecil Gibbs (soap powder, toothpaste).
Mr E K Cole, one of the first manufacturers of television sets in the 50's. His company was EKCO.
It is believed that Simon Ward's family (actor) lived in Great Baddow for a while.

King Harold - He was reputated to have stopped on the way to Hastings at Waltham Abbey. There is also a legend that King Harold was burried at Waltham Abbey.
Where I lived in Harold Hill, there there as a pub called The Conqueror.

Alan Davies is one of the best-known actors on British television.
Born in Essex, he got his first break as a stand-up comedian aged 22 at the Black Cat Cabaret in Stoke Newington. His best known acting role is in the title role of Jonathan Creek, and he has also appeared as a regular in BBC2's comedy quiz show, QI, hosted by Stephen Fry.

Bill Burton (1907-1995) - popular artist who launched a thousand (and more) sunsets (1907-1995)
Bill Burton is probably best known for his seascapes. "Eventide" adorned the wall of the flat above the corner shop in television's Coronation Street.
John Constable (1776-1837) - artist who painted the Hay Wain (1776-1837)
Constable was born in East Bergholt on the Essex-Suffolk border and went to school in Dedham.
Patrick Fisher - maritime artist (1930 - 1987)
Paddy Fisher was born in Parkeston, near Harwich, and went on to record his local area in oils. A press review of an exhibition after his death said: "Patrick Fisher was to Harwich what Constable was to Flatford and Dedham, perhaps more so."
Thomas Gainsborough (1727-1788) - portrait painter (1727-1788)
Gainsborough was born in Sudbury, a Suffolk town just five miles from the Essex border. He is best known as a portrait painter.
