Happy Easter everyone Somehow it doesn't feel like Easter over here. Certainly the shops are full of enormous chocolate bunnies and seasonal foods. Certainly I have seen posters advertising the performances of St John Passion and the Messiah - all standard Easter fare. But, for myself, I'm just not geared up for this time of year anymore. Back in my teaching days I'd have been preparing for weeks. First the obligatory 'Easter Concert' would need to be organised and rehearsed for. Then get the end of term examinations out of the way and wrap up any outstanding coursework and performance taping for the GCSE's and A levels. And then - look forward to two weeks of relaxation. But now I no longer have that luxury, well not this year anyway. The schools here in Holland only have two days break. Admittedly we get a week off for Ascension, which this year also coincides with the extra holiday to celebrate the official birthday of the Queen. I used to enjoy my two weeks rest. It gave me a chance to get out into the garden and catch up with long-overdue weeding, tidying and planting and, weather permitting, start to lightly tan. I don't know what I'm grumbling about really as here I don't even have a garden! It looks as if the Easter break may have distracted a few of our regular contributors this week. Quite a lot of them are based in schools or universities and I am guessing that either they have been locked out of the computer room or they have all gone home or to some exotic place. Despite this, we still have a nicely rounded edition. One or two of the articles encompass the season and quite a few others ignore it completely. All would welcome feedback so do please make yourselves known to the writers! | |
