Oh dear. I always think it's interesting reading something about somewhere you've never been, even if you don't necessarily plan to go.

Sorry, ST, that was in response to lil's post.
Thanks a lot for your encouragement.
I've always been one to doubt the quality of my writing, and recent experience just confirms that my doubts are justified, so I'll do the sensible thing now.

"I can't write about the subjects which are interesting to the majority of the British, and even if I could, my style would be too dry and factual, ie boring."
Did somebody say something about your Entries to prompt this?
Boysadear, where to start.
A few points strike me about it. First, your Entries are interesting and tell us things we didn't know about. The fact that you're from a different country than most of the site users is even better - why would I want to read lots of Entries about the shop at the end of my street when I'm in it all the time? And a guide which aims to encompass the universe and everything surely has room for Germany - it's not *that* foreign!
Secondly, the BBC may host this site, but that doesn't mean it's just for Brits. It's provided through a global medium much like the BBC's World Service is - don't think you have to go out of your way to please British people; the site's for the world.
Thirdly, Brits don't have *that* much objection to boredom. Hence the election of http://www.number10.gov.uk/history-and-tour/prime-ministers-in-history/john-major .
Fourth, as a German from the flatlands, you have a duty to combat the myth that you all wear Lederhosen and slap each others' bottoms while wearing feathered hats.
Anyway, I enjoyed 'em. And don't feel you're a performing monkey who has to please people from one tiny island. There's a whole world beyond Britain, and it doesn't do any harm to remember that now and again.

Good on yer, KB, that's telling them. Second and third to all of that.
There is nothing wrong with being factual. If I could, I would.
I think it's called sincerity...I should try it sometime...
While we're on the subject of insularity...
I used to think every possible subject was of interest, except possibly downhill skiing (and an EG entry on a funny British skiier taught me better about that).
However...if this thread had been entitled 'No more Guide Entries about cricket and football'...
You would have had my vote.
KB is right on the subject of Germany. They all think that about the Lederhosen and Knödel, they really do...as a Kölner, this offends me deeply...
Fascinating factoid: Did you know that the Marx Brothers' mother came from East Frisia????

You'll get me into trouble, D! I wasn't Brit-bashing, I just meant other countries are just as good too...

of course i do not know for sure, but i am pretty sure douglas adams would have been very disappointed had he learned that people stopped writing because their entries might not please the brits
we are universal for bob's sake!

Only just in from w*rk and just seen this.
I'm the last person to advise on entries, but it would be a loss if you stopped writing entries, especially about something you know about that others don't. I may not always comment on others' entries but I do read them, and I think if you do stop, the site will become even more UK-centric than it already is!
on it, and maybe wait until after the May Meet before making a firm decision?

Don't worry, it's not a lack of feedback which brought this about. PR has always been good, I have no reason to complain about that part of the procedure. And I really don't expect everybody to comment on every entry in PR, I don't do that myself.
Maybe you are all right, and I shouldn't worry about what happens (or rather doesn't happen) once PR is over.
I don't know.

But if you stop writing entries I won't be able to cajole you into translating the platt bits I don't understand for my Hannes Wader entry!
(*thinks* Oh dear. I don't think she knew she was going to be doing that yet...)
Key: Complain about this post
