Its really amazing when you think of it, any one in their Fifties now has seen technology grow at such a rate, I donr think any other generation will see the like again!
Just think back before, Fax machines, Computers, Space,Videos, Sterio,
Digital Signals, Satalite TV. the list is endless, Its scarey when you think about it Eh!smiley - oksmiley - winkeye

here is something that was read out at a retirement do.

WE ARE SURVIVORS
(for those born before XXXX)

we were born before television, before penicillin, polio shots, frozen foods, xerox, plastic, contact lenses, videos, frisbees and the pill. we were before radar, credit cards, split atoms, laser beams, and ballpoint pens. before dishwashers, tumble driers, electric blankets, air conditioners, drip dry clothes ... and before man walked on the moon.

we got married first and then lived together(how quaint can you be?) we though that fast food was what we ate at Lent. a 'big mac' was an oversized raincoat and crumpet we had for tea. we existed before househusbands, computer dating, dual cars and when a 'meaningful relationship' meant getting along with cousins and 'sheltered accommodation' was where you waited for a bus.

we were before the day care centres, group homes and disposable nappies. we never heard of fm radio, tape decks, electric typewriters, artificial hearts, word processors, yoghurt or young men wearing earrings. for us, 'time sharing' was togetherness, a 'chip' was a piece of wood or a fried potato, 'hardware' meant nuts and bolts and 'software' wasnt a word.

before XXXX 'made in japan' meant junk, the term 'making out' referred to how you did in your exams. 'stud' was something that fastened your collar to a shirt and 'going all the way' meant staying on a double decker to the bus depot. pizzas macdonalds and instant coffee were unheard of. in our day cigarette smoking was fashionable., 'grass' was mwn. 'coke' was kept in the coal house, a 'joint' was a piece of meat cooked on a sunday and 'pot' was what you cooked in. 'rock music' was a fond mothers lullaby, 'eldorado' was an ice cream, a 'gay' person was the life and soul of the party amd nothing more. while 'aids' was just beauty treatment or help for someone in trouble.

we who were born before XXXX must be hardy bunch when you think of the way in which the world has changed and the adjustments we have had to make. no wonder we are so confused and there is a generation gap today...BUT

WE HAVE SURVIVED.

i dont know what year it is as the date has been blanked out, but im sure some of it means something to someonesmiley - smiley

Hi Allsmiley - biggrin, This is "TRUE" A few years ago I had a lot of Xmas trees in my garden, so I cut them down to give them away to anyone who wanted one, as they were on the "tall" side. Si I put them out front of my house (shop) with a sign saying "FREE"smiley - ok

No takers? so I went out and put a £10 price ticket on everyone, next day, they were all gonesmiley - laughsmiley - biggrin

THERE MUST BE A MORAL TO THESE STORIES ...BUT WHAT IT IS I DONT KNOW!!!!i can remember going to stay at my aunties house when i was about 11,and going for a walk with the girls next door.(couldnt do that now either)).they were my age and it was a bank holiday.there was a tray of bread outside a bakers shop, that had a sign on it saying please take..so we each took a loaf.i got into so much trouble, and my aunt took me back the next day, just to check we hadnt stolen it.i think it was the last time i took anything "free",i am even hesitant about taking free leaflets now.

hi everyonesmiley - brokenheart

some of you will remeber i was looking for my cousin billy, and with sallys help a few weeks ago i found him,

he was away the day i called to see him,but a few days after we talked for 15 to 20 mins on the phone, and said soon we would meet up at my house.

i will meet him tomorrow, but not as i
invisaged,he had a massive stroke on monday and died within minutes,

so this morning his son rang to ask me to the funeral as one of the family with them,so tomorrow i meet billy for the last time, and his whole family, but not the way i wanted(disco>jim
