helen.... sneakin' the odd glass wouldn't have done you any harm... in fact it would have done you good...
my mam used to try to get me to drink it if i felt yuk, it did the trick i suppose, i used to throw up... lol.... well it cleared me system...
she used to have to mix it with a bit of cordial so i could stomach it...
hey do you remember sulio.... that horrible yellow gunk for head lice.... it was like having custard rubbed on your head.... and you had to sleep in it..... yuk... lol..

when we were children, we used liquid paraffin.
you could always tell the children who had been treated as it looked as if you had got permanent wet hair..lol.
MEMORY LANE!!!
Paganmoon - Crazy as Ever Posted Nov 10, 2003
have heard of that, but thankfully never been party to it.... that sulio was bad enough...
as soon as me mam n gran heard that someone had nits me gran would get me with the nit combe, which was no easy thing as i got curly hair... ouch...
then nits or no, on would go the sulio....
i only ever had head lice once that i can recall.... but my scalp is buggered now with all that unessessary gunk.... lol...

do you remember when you used to have to wash your hands before dinner and the dinner ladies always used to know if you had washed your hands or not.
we always thought that they DID have eyes in the back of their heads..lol.

helen...
i do remember... lol... but was lucky enough to live just down the street from the school to be able to go home for dinner....
the secondary school was next to the primary, so i was given money to go to chippy or pie shop and go home with it.....
only suffered a few school dinners... lol....

i used to have school dinners in the infants/juniors and as i grew through the school, i was allowed to go on errands for the teachers, to the school kitchens. where the cook used to show us how things worked.
that was how i developed an interest and love of cooking and ended up in catering.
