Just stay out of the clutches of your friendly neighborhood , AW. I can let you have the phone numbers of a few good -doctors and herbalists (Herb the Herbalist is very good, especially in a teapot )

Norma Zimmer was a quavery-voiced soprano who used to sing on the "Lawrence Welk Show." If you've never heard of her, you'ree lucky. Her singing was so schmaltzy and sweet, bees would gather aorund the TV screen.

I've heard it. The Lawrence Welk Show single-handedly ruined Big Band sound, in my opinion. Mom still loves to watch it ... every Saturday evening. It's all I can do to refrain from gagging audibly while she enjoys the "music", if you can call it that. *wretching noises*
Red. Stop makig fun of ER's zimmerframe.

Say it isn't so, AW. Lawrence Welk is dead, as are (undoubtedly) many of his performers. That leaves only a few possible explanations:
1. They were all cloned.
2. A whole new raft of Welk-like performers has been spawned, and will infest Saturday nights for the foreseeable future.
3. These are all rerererererererererererereruns, just spinning endlessly like those old episodes of "I Love Lucy" or "Honeymooners."
I....must.....sit.....down.

Lawrence Welk is indeed dead ... but his reruns live on forever and they are *far* more sinister than *any* 'I Love Lucy' rerun could ever be.
I sort of always liked 'The Honeymooners', Paul. Jackie Gleason always reminded me of my dad ... they were both very similar characters ... not the character of Ralph Cramden, but Jackie Gleason himself.

Jackie Gleason was a very talented man--a comic, an actor, a trumpeter, a composer, even a director. He had a photographic memory, but he could also adlib brilliantly. I'd bet he would be very entertaining as a dinner companion.

When I was a kid, (well a physical one, rather than the big one I am now ) I absolutely loved 'I love Lucy' Apparently it was also a favourite of the Queen's

Really?
I was told (by a Brit) that I Love Lucy was never aired in the UK - Guess that person must be far too young to have ever seen it.
When I was a teenager, several local stations where I grew up ran Lucy re-runs, and they were scheduled in such a way that you could watch one right after the other. My sister watched I Love Lucy for a couple hours hours every day!
It's still shown in the US, but primarily on cable/satellite stations that run classic shows, and it's now available on DVD.

I vaguely remember it on Grampian TV around Staurday lunchtimes in the days of black-and-white TV. In those days ITV was regional, so it's quite possible that only one or two regions showed it.

There were a number of "Honeymooners" episodes that Jackie Gleason locked in his vault. They were not released until after his death.
