over 100 seti units!
Jeremy (trying to find his way back to dinner) Posted Apr 18, 2003
My next waypoint are DNA's 1094 units ... I never thought I would be able to pass him ... until that awful day in 2001
I raise my to DNA.

The same unit twice? How do you know?
As far as I know, they try to have every unit crunched by more than one machine (increased redundancy). Anyhow, even if you coincidentally happen to get one and the same unit a second time, you'll be credited twice for it.

Bad luck ...

That *has* happened to me.
I lost the unit.
Back in the days when it took me 60+ hours to complete one.

... isn't that rather the other way 'round? You passed Jimi X just a few days ago, and if you don't ruin your PC, he won't get you ...

me neither ...
but, hey, if we hadn't done hundreds and thousands of void units, those lucky ones would have had to do them and wouldn't have found their candidates!!
I mean, it's like sky archeology: you need hundreds of helping hands to dig away the tons of dirt before one lucky person can spot and find the grail ...
almost 900 seti units!

A wonderful philosophy Jeremy
I'm not on the list either, but I don't mind, at least they've found some candidtes, and that blows the entry rubbishing seti@home currently in PeerReview right out the water
I'm currently crunching unit # 899...
almost 900 seti units!

I read that article. It's fairly well written (from a "Entry-technical" point of view), but I still don't really like it.
I mean: Get out of the kitchen, if you can't stand the heat.
I would not like to say that SETI, with or without the @home, is a religion. It is a scientifically well based assumption that there is some propability that "we are not alone". If we can find others within our lifetime and with the means we have at hand... I don't now. But you have to start to dig if you want to find the grail.
