over 800 seti units!
Zak T Duck Posted Apr 10, 2003
£750, but that was without a monitor and speakers, so I bought a flat screen monitor and 5.1 surround sound speakers from them for an additional £250. Even doing that it was still over £300 cheaper than the equivalent models from various PC Retailers.
Last week they were running a similar offer. Updated spec of the same machine with a DVD ReWriter for about the same price again
They tend to run these offers twice a year, just before Christmas and Easter. The only trouble is they sell like hot cakes, I had to get there before 6am on the Thursday the offer started just to be guaranteed one. Wonderful machine tho

Just for you information:
Right now "NORMA", one of the big three discount chains here in Germany (ALDI and LIDL are the other two), has a PC on sale (each of them has a "PC-Action" at least twice a year). The specs of the current NORMA machine are as follows:
- Pentium 4, running on 2,66 GHz
- 512 MB Ram (PC266 DDR)
- 160GB harddisk
- Asus 533MHz FSB board
- NVidia GeForce Ti 4800 SE graphics
- DVD-drive 12x/48x
- CD-rewriter 52x/24x/52x
- 10/100 LAN card, DSL-ready
- 56K modem
- XP home edition
- Star office 6.0
- keyboard
- mouse
The price is no more than 999 EUR (that should be some 675 pounds).
Everytime these offers come out I'm severely tempted to convert my current machine into a fileserver/proxy/firewall running on Linux and to have fun with a new PC (that should crunch some 5-6 SETI units per day ...)

Croz,
if you keep on crunching units at your current speed, you'll see the big 1K in the middle of September ...

September, that's right.
App. 5-6 units per day, some 880 to go, makes some 170-180 days from now ==> September ... q.e.d.
