What I want to know is the definition of celibacy.
I mean, I know I am celibate between lovers.
At the moment, I am seeing someone I intend to remain faithful to, but it's a long distance relationship. Therefore, our periods apart, am I *celibate* or just being faithful? Some people think they are celibate in between the times they have sex...with the same person? I don't think that's right...surely that's just recharging batteries? I mean when that couple are seeing each other a couple of times a week!
What does everyone else think?

I think that strictly, celibacy means "abstaining from sexual intercourse", preferably of one's own free will... which basically means that most of us here aren't actually celibate as such; "sexually deprived" would be nearer the mark, I think. I'm with someone whom I intend to remain faithful to (first anniversary in two weeks! Hooray!... sorry) and indeed see every day, but it doesn't mean that I get to have sex particularly often...

Does 30 hours count? it's a long distance thing too. As far as my concience is concerned I'm being faithful. As far as my corporeal parts are concerned I'm celibate under duress.

Well - I just trawled {a Grimsby-terminology, for those who don't know what that word means *casting a glance over the Pond*} through our backlog, looking for our longest-serving Celibate-sufferer...and I noticed a couple of things...*adds note to self: Start a new thread* and I cannot find the one who said he'd been celibate for years {I don't mean the virgins - there are not celibate, they are just waiting! } so I apologize unreservedly for missing anyone out.
Emily - I don't think of you as celibate. Especially as you are coming up to your first anniversary with the same person. Which I think deserves an acknowledgement.
