I once went without for years. Whe I finally broke the drought, I remembered what a horribly messy experience it can be. Anyway, even if I'm seeing someone, I still "please myself". After all, I am my own best friend!

If lovemaking isn't messy, you aren't doing it right! smiley - winkeye

Pleasing ourselves is ok, but you can't *beat* the real thing {sic} LOL

Apart from the 20 years I went without to start with (a late starter I know, how awful it was.), 6 months is the longest I have been celibate between lovers. Well, deprived I call it.
Then I tend to shake like a bloody leaf when I get back in the sack, even the last time when it was only 3 months I was nervous. As for "pleasing myself" that's certainly made more interesting when I talk to my current lover online when I can't get to see him smiley - smiley

Pleasing myself does not "satisfy me" emotionally, only physically.
In fact, with no goodnight kiss and cuddle, I sometimes feel worse, so I don't bother much.

I think I'm going to be sick...

First, things are a bit TOO loved up in here now, and second Mad Gerald wants to share his manly fluids with us.

Well, thanks Gerald, that's sweet!

Cuddles are nice, but I can get them from my son, family and friends.

I don't mind sex without cuddles, as long as it's not without a bit of affection. Between friends is what I mean I suppose.

Sex with friends?
Don't they then become lovers?

Well, technically yes, but we are still friends before we are lovers.

Having sex with a friend has got to beat having sex with your mortal enemy every time though hasn't it? smiley - winkeye

Ummmm....What I meant was, if you cross the boundary with a friend and become lovers, technically they are no longer friends, right? I mean, I have friends that I don't have sex with. In some cases, that's a crying shame...
but I digress...
Maybe it's my age, but I would consider someone I was having sex with as being my lover, or "a" lover, depending on how lucky I was at the time...
Friends are friends, someone to hug & kiss & chew their ear off & cry on their shoulder AND visa versa. {Male OR female}.
Lovers are the people I have sex with.
I envy the ones who have it all, their life-partner, best friend & lover, all rolled into one.

If you are blessed you have a lover you consider to be your best-friend... Someone you can be totally yourself with with no fear, and talk about anything without being afraid of being judged.

With a couple of exceptions (that I would rather forget) I have only been lovers with people I consider to be my friends, whether new friends or longer known friends...

I am so nervous being intimate with someone for the first time, they would have to be a good friend, or I would just DIE. lol

But you are right that sometimes the friendship is too precious to take the chance of it all going horribly wrong if you become more than just that... Friends (hopefully) and there for you forever, and lovers (in my experience) come and go... smiley - sadface
