Welcome to my version of reality

Welcome to my very own space on h2g2. Get seated and make yourself comfortable.

About myself

In this section I will tell you who I am, what I do and why I think h2g2 is the best thing since the inventation of sliced bread. Lean back and read more about the strange guy who has written this page.

Who I am

First of all I think I am a human, as long nobody proofs the opposite. I'm 21 year old male and live in Munich, Germany, Europe. Most people I know would describe me as a friendly and nice person. I despite would say I'm a sadistic, disappointed, depressive and pathetic misanthrope. Whom do you believe: Them or me? ;)

I'm trying to be a hacker. No, not what you think right now. Hacking itself has nothing to do with breaking into computer systems. It's about thinking for yourself and trying unusual things. "Hacking is about cooking your eggs in a coffee machine". If you want to read more about hacking (in opposite to cracking), I suggest the Jargon File.

Did I mention that I don't smoke and drink, that I'm a vegetarian and believe in Zen-Buddhism?

What I do

I'm studying Computer Science at the Technische Universität München 1. As this is sometimes very boring, especially if your professor don't knows how to make his job right, there are some other things I do to recreate myself.

For example I like to draw, to make music (sing and play guitar), write poetry and interact socially. I am really LOUSY at each of this subjects, but in spite of this I have fun doing it, and that's what counts, right?

In addition to my studies, I like working on computers at home. I know, this sounds a bit strange, but I would say 80 percent of my day have to do with computers the one or other way. I like to code and dream about making my own computer game. At the moment I am learning OpenGL, if my spare time allows. But I also do the normal stuff, most people do with their computers: WWW, email, photo processing and manipulating, doing some pseudo-creative work and so on.

I'm not only a computer geek. I also do some more normal things. I like going to concerts and listing to music, I read a lot, I love watching movies and going to the cinema. I like to photograph and to film. And certainly I like to hang around with my friends and talk about better days... ;)

What I like

Okay, now you know what I'm like. It's time to tell you what I like.

General stuff

One of my biggest hobbies is to sleep. I'm really experienced in that. I think I'm doing it at least 8 hours a day, and if I got the time even 10 to 12 hours. Sleeping is really cool, if you haven't tried it, find a bed near you and just do it. Another hobby of mine is dreaming. I can remember my dreams quite often and sometimes I even manage to get into the state of lucid dreaming.

Another "thing" that makes life worthwhile, are girls. The world would be a better place if there were more of them. I like girls with short hair2, who know what they want, are alarmingly intelligent and are really cute. But this wouldn't be the real world, if there weren't a catch about this: Actually these girls are not very likely to like me... ;)

To continue this list with another species nobody could ever really understand: I like cats. Especially my very own cat, if I could say this, because most of the time I've got the feeling, that I am his pet and not the other way round. By the way: He is my big idol as far as his favorite hobby is sleeping and he does it 15+ hours a day. Oh, I almost forgot: His name is Schroedinger3.

Actually there are real "things", I like. They are most likely gray, black or fancy colored and you are sitting in front of one if you read this. I like computers. And I really got lots of them: My first computer was an Amstrad CPC 464 with attached tape deck4. At the age of 12 I sold it to a friend and got a Amstrad CPC 664 with 3" discs5. I played a lot of games on these two computers in my childhood, like Breakout or Commandos. The next computer I got in contact to was an 286 laptop, quite high-tech these times. Then I slowly crawled up the ladder of the Intel architecture: 386, 486DX, 486DX2, Pentium, PII, AMD Athlon. By this time I got the clue that there must be something else outside this "Intel inside - don't divide" world. I discovered the wonderful world of RISC. As of now my very own computer network in my house6 consists of 5 PCs and a Sun SPARCstation 5. There are a lot of other computer devices in my room: My Palm, my old CPC7, my TI-92+ Calculator, etc.

Organizations I support

I'm a member of the [URL removed by moderator] 8, a organization of hackers9, who care about free speech, security and other important issues in these times of the digital information age. It's often referenced as the german version of the [URL removed by moderator] club.

I'm a proud member of the legion of dynamic discord, LDD, as well. If you want to find out more about us, Discordianism and our goddess Eris, please read the Principia Discordia.

Music

I like Music. Almost every kind10 of it. For example I like german hiphop. I really like bands like "Die fantastischen Vier"11, "Fünf Sterne deluxe"12 or "Fettes Brot"13. I think hiphop is the perfect mix of beat, melody and (poetic) lyrics, and therefore I like it.

As I mentioned I'm not a man of musical mono"tone"y. I'm also in any kind of music featuring guitars. The louder, the better. To make it short: I like punk, metal, alternative, rock, pop etc. Some of my favorite bands are "Die Ärzte"14, Offspring, Metallica, Limp Bizkit, Blind Guardian, Greenday, REM, U2, Blur, Oasis, The Corrs and so on.

I also like electronic music. My favs are Acid and House, but I think electronic music don't fits in categories this easy. By the way: I'm obsessed with popcorn15.

Books

Now I have a big surprise for all you people on h2g2: I actually like reading Douglas Adams. He is a really witty writer, but I think he is at his best when he covers serious topics, like "Last chance to see" and some of his speeches about modern life and technology.

Another of my personal literatural heroes is J.R.R. Tolkien. I like "The Lord of the Rings" really a lot, I read it in 3 days (a book a day) and think its one of the most epic books of the last century. I like how Tolkien creates his very own world with nothing more than words. A masterpiece.

In addition to that I read almost every author ranging from Prachett to Shakespeare. A good book tells a story, it's not important which language is used. I read a lot of nonfiction books as well, like science books (especially modern physics) and books about computers. I also must admit that I have a weakness for american and japanese comics.

Movies

I like watching movies on DVD and in the cinema. My all time favorite is Star Wars (I-VI). George Lucas is god and I can't wait to see the 2 remaining films of his saga. I like sci-fi in general, but I enjoy watching romantic dramas or comedies as well. I also like any kind of so called cult movies and I'm a fan of western and eastern animated movies.

Things that piss me off

As far as Taoism goes, there must exist things that you dislike, if you like some other...

People

I can only think about one person who really gets on my nerves: The devil himself Bill Gates...;) I don't like his products and I don't like how he got rich and how he stays it. He is the antichrist.

Things and other stuff

As I stated above, I don't like Bill. I don't like Microsoft and the culture it's caused either. I think there are many people who never realized that there is something beside all this Microsoft/Intel sh*t, and that's a damned shame. I think the world would be a nicer place without Microsoft. And without all these annoying people asking me how to fix their Wintel-PC. (Hey guys: Install one of these free unices16, they really rock!)

The next thing I can't stand is racism in any form. I can't imagine anything dumber than people thinking they are better because of their place of birth, skin color or clothes. This is especially true for all these skins in (mainly) east germany and all these americans of yesterday who think the KKK is really a good idea. To make it short: Die Nazis die! This may sound a bit rough, but there is in my opinion no excuse for racism and there can't be any tolerance for it. Full stop.

I can't remember anything more that pisses me off right now, but be sure, if I come across it again, I'll write it down here.

Conclusion

Okay, you read all the stuff above? You must be very tired right now, aren't you? NO? You want more? Then read my journal, conversations and articles below.

Have a nice time and party on!

1"technical university of Munich" or short "TUM"2I like girls with long hair too, but you have to give a idea of how the girl of your dreams looks, these days, which I actually consider nonsense.3I know it isn't this funny anymore, as everyone has seen a cat named Schroedinger on TV on shows like Stargate and Sliders, but I promise my friend, it really were my unique idea the day I gave him his name.4Yes, we used audio tapes to store data in the age of the dinosaurs, little kids.5Yes, this is no typo. 3 inch.
