think the title is 'merry x-mas, war is over' but i'm sure Ottox can tell you more about it... for me it's far more than trivia
everyone who has read or seen Nick Hornby's 'High Fidelity' knows what i mean. Kasia, did you see the film? Even the 'Boss' Bruce Springsteen is part of the film.
But back to the Stranglers, my song for this evening shall be 'strange little girl' by the Strangers

You can call me TC Posted Dec 13, 2000
I just missed High Fidelity. It was showing at our cinema a couple of weeks ago in the original. I intended to go, but never made it. I knew I'd regret it.
George Michael * pause as TC ducks the tomatoes* has a really good way of finding songs which sound good and have substance to them. Careless Whispers has so many aspects and you always find something new, music and lyrics are really good. Lots of his songs are good, but people just dismiss him because he's who he is.
So as it's gone midnight, my song for Thursday is Careless Whispers. "Last Christmas" would be more topical, but is not good enough for a song of the day.

"Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" from the Album "Shaved Fish" 1971
High Fidelity: I won both the book and tickets for the movie in a quiz at a mailing list. I saw the film at my 30 years birthday in august!
Will you have to see it in German synchronization TC?
That's a good thing about being Danish, I've never heard John Wayne say "Hænderne op!" (But I suppose Iben Hjejle (Laura) could talk Danish quite good
)
My song for the last two days has been "Straight to Hell" by The Clash. Thanks to Kasia, I just *had* to listen to the Combat Rock album!

Oh, you all do that all the time!
I'm Muse of Listening to Old LP-records - don't know if I inspire anyone, but I certainly gets inspiration myself from you (forgot: should I now say) guys (or should I not? )

Bassman - Funny how people never ceases to amaze me! Posted Dec 15, 2000
Really sorry everyone ~ wrings cloth cap in hands, tugs forelock, gaze downcast ~
The other artist who's record sales went down - I am reliably informed was ~ fanfare ~ Adam Ant.
Not surprising really, he did a couple of new numbers that nobody had heard of. They were all expecting "Stand and Deliver" or "Prince Charming".
Can't remember - I think it might have been Trillian's Child that said I should go to Dave Greenfield's pub - so I did on Thursday lunch time. The shame of it was he'd been very busy the night before, I think the rest of the band had been round for a bash! He wasn't around.
The lady serving me was very pleasant and quite chatty, even though the lounge bar was full of people having a company Christmas lunch. Nice atmosphere!! I shall return in the evening some time and hopefully will get to chat with Dave. The Bass player Jean-Jacques also lives in a bungalow in the village, so a chance to meet him as well perhaps?
We'll see.

I have no idea what Iben Hei...(?) sounds like in Danish but she was adorable, even synchronized. It's not that easy in Germany to see english or american films in the original language when you're living on the countryside like I do.
Not often but sometimes it works even better when a movie is synchronized, f. ex. the series "die Zwei" (don't know the original title) with Tony Curtis and Roger Moore. The german dialogues are as mad as Tony Curtis' outfit, but when I saw it in England for the first time it was completely disappointing
Kasia and Ottox, you brought a fantastic song of the day to my mind
'John Wayne is big leggy (Hayzee Fantayzee)
the singer of Dead or alive used to sing at Hayzee Fantayzee before
Bassman, thanks for the answer
I was a bit scared when I heard that the film High Fidelity was placed to Chicago but it did no harm to the story

Well, I could have seen it in the original. They show a film every week in the original language here because my home town has a university (just the language faculty). This week it's "Güle Güle" That's Turkish.
I must see what is on next week.

you're right, Kasia

i mean you mentioned Dead or Alive (same singer) and Ottox mentioned John Wayne ... and that's why this fantastic music came to my mind

Sultans of Swing - one of my all time fave songs. A lot of their stuff left me cold but this has got to be one of the all time greats.
I was watching a band in a pub one time, there was a bass on a stand at the back of the stage that didn't get used at all. At half time I said to the roadie it seemed such a waste, could I have a go, Sultans Of Swing is what I played!! The guys asked why I wasn't a pro musician.
My song for the day is "Charlie Big Potato" by Skunk Anansie. I saw them on tour last year and it was their opening number. What power!!

Hi Bassman,
I like most of Dire Straits songs - I grew up with them, you know.
In the 80s I was more then 6 times at their concerts - smashing and as I said just
As for Skunk Anansie - I don't know them too good, should give them a try, yes?

Hey, it's American Psycho next week at our cinema. Whoops, no one's listening. I thought of a song for the day this morning but have forgotten it again.
So just in case, I'll post all next week's now, and none of them have anything to do with Christmas:
Sunday (tomorrow) Dire Straits, to keep in with you lot: Walk of Life.
Monday Guns 'n Roses - Paradise City
Tuesday - Stones - Brown Sugar
Wednesday - Extreme - more than words
Thursday - Harry Nilssen - Without you
Friday - I drove all night (but by Cyndi Lauper)
Saturday - Elton John - Saturday.
Was that the one he sung with Anastacia in Madison Square Garden? Whichever one it was, she was really brilliant - I think she has loads of personality. And Ronan Keating singing "My Song" with him - made me cry. Just to see an Englishman and an Irishman together......... and Billy Joel. Bliss.
Aren't we lucky to have all this music at our fingertips?
Dire Straits
Bassman - Funny how people never ceases to amaze me! Posted Dec 16, 2000
The one thing that brought a tear to my eye was when Elton John sang "Candle in the wind" at the funeral of Princess Dianna. That must have been one of the most moving moments I have ever witnessed.
I went into London that day, I'd bought tickets to see "Starlight Express" about three months previously. The place was like a ghost town. I managed to walk out of Camden tube station and cross the road without having to wait for the traffic lights to change. Not a car in sight. Spooky!!
