I still think your mad to have headed towards* the cold and snow rater than staying away in the warm

We're getting rain, and it's likely to keep on raining through tomorrow morning. Then New Year's Day we're likely to get some snow, though it might be mixed with rain. The first week in January usually gets a period of heavy rain. It's been like that for at least the last 5 consecutive years, maybe more.

there is a kind of a health and work out centre called 'la santa sport'. is it anywhere near where you live, lanza?

Lanzababy - Guide Editor Posted Dec 28, 2009
It's on the other side of the island - but nowhere is 'far' Probably about 30-40 minutes drive away?
I think quite a few elite sports-people use it for winter training. It has a very good reputation.
Are you thinking of a work out holiday then Pierce?

there are some serious athletes over there. Ironmen in all senses of the word

I know someone who won an "Iron Man" contest. He did it by biking, runiing, and swimming. He's a tri-athlete.

Really? *faints* That is quite an achievement. Ironmen are really amazing. They have Ironmaidens too. (although I wouldn't call them that in their hearing.
Lanzarote Ironman is a qualifier for the Hawaii World Championship.

The guy I was talking about went swimming this morning when I was swimming. He stood next to me in the locker room. I don't know if he has competed much lately. Mostly he works as a trainer for other athletes.

The snow is great here - ie. it's thick & a lot of main roads are not advisable. Snow is great, admittedly not when people have to travel, otherwise, snow rules. (sorry for that, but travel isn't always the be-all & end-all of New Year/Hogmanay)
Hogmanay is about connecting with family, friends, neighbours, & most importantly, strangers, cos they can influence the next year in the most unexpected way, I've had experience of that, which would not have happened had I gone hame. Whoever you meet on Hogmanay - enjoy the occassion, & pass the good will on - it does work

Hi Anne! Whereabouts are you? I forgot Fresh snow is always exciting
Very interesting about the strangers at New Year. I always seem to be with family or friends I already know. I shall have to go out and grab a passing stranger? Maybe....

re 184:
la santa sport was established by a danish clergyman who also invested in a travel agency and a fleet of airliners as a hobby
i have done some long distance cycling in my time and might actually consider living at la santa sport for a week or two and try to brush up on my cycling skills
if i do i may cycle over to your side of the island. a 30-40 minutes bike ride should not be a problem as long as i don't have to climb mountains on the way

Well, there are some volcanoes! Don't come in the height of summer, as it is very hot sun and you would fry.
I usually have a car and would be glad to show you around the island

i was counting on dmitri and you not to cycle with me, paul
maybe you could rent a trike ( = three wheeled motorbike)

Enjoys the mental picture of various hootizens wearing headgear roving the island on hell's angel 3 wheeled bikes.

Yarreau Posted Dec 30, 2009
I'm expecting three hootizens later today... hope they'll be able to get through all this snow on their little tricycles... maybe I'll have to pick them up from the train station after all!
