*the antimatter, upon reaching each culture ship, simply vanishes, being amply neutralised by the umpteen different fields surrounding each vessel*
*yet again, in spite of captain venom having moved his location, the culture fleet remain in their exact same position relative to him*
.. also, no culture ship has "viewscreens" apart from the GSV, and in the gsv, they're only for the benefit of tourists

Peter aka Krans Posted Jun 24, 2002
*Yawn*
I doubt you'd be able to coat the whole of a 10000km diameter orbital with antimatter - even a GSV would have some difficulty with that. AFAIK, during the Idiran war it took 3 GSVs to carry out the destruction of an orbital, and that was with gridfire.

You're right, Krans, as per usual. *inspects fingernails*
frankly, mr. venom, there's no way in which you're going to win here without breaching continuity, and since if you do breach continuity your actions will be disregarded, you have little or no choice left. Either you surrender soon or you'll have your entire spacestation pulled to pieces, which would mean the death of your rpg character. Whilst this isn't something which we wish to do, we are quite prepared to destroy your spacestation and everything on it, and suggest that you surrender, upon the receipt of which you have our word, in and out of context, that you'll be reasonably treated.

Any destruction of my station or character, as it would clearly be breaking the LoC, would also be disregarded... thereby I suggest you just leave me alone. There's really neither of us who can win... which is why I've been trying to run rather than fight.
*a tiny capsule and appropriately small subspace drives pop out of the bottom of the station and disappear before lasers have a chance to scorch them*
*the station ONCE AGAIN, AND THIS WILL KEEP HAPPENING! disappears in a brilliant flash of light*

njan (afh) Posted Jun 26, 2002
Actually, untrue. The laws of continuity exist to make sure that no one individual makes a hash of any given scenario. As such, they equally to apply to someone who, in the face of large opposition, refuses to concede and give in to the fact that there's no way whatsoever in which he can win. They don't only apply unidirectionally. En plus, bad gameplaying of the sort which would breach the laws of continuity as mentioned above is subsequent to exactly the sort of roleplaying blacklisting as all other breaches of the laws of continuity, which should lead you to pay caution to them accordingly.

[Axe] , excuse me EVA. Could you repeat the last announcement please?
[EVA] Replaying previous announcement in .EVAhistory...
[EVA] The Starpilot Hotel Space Station was not found in any known part of the galaxy. Scanning for SHSS signiture fragment particles. Found 1024346743 matches. Location: x+5y-7AU. Displaying map on console 7.
[Axe] Define, 'fragment particles'.
[EVA] Fragment particles are surviving particles from an explosion in space. They can be identified by their signitures - every modern ship is coded to enable it to be accuratly scanned.
[Axe] Define, 'fragment particles' in this context.
[EVA] Remaining particles from the destruction of the Starpilot Hotel Space Station, which happened five minutes ago, based upon the fragment position and velocities.
[Axe] Hmm... EVA, send out salvage teams please.
Where they will find that excessive trans-warping has accelerated metal fatigue in the SHSS reactors, causing a cascade failure Hope you got to an escape pod, CV. Oh, and feel free to say that this is anti-LoC, 'cause it'll make you look more stupid when I conclusivly prove that FTL causes metal fatigue.

If you guys would please check the Anti-Borg Movement Homepage, I believe you'd be pleasantly surprised... BTW you're all being jerks. So please just leave me alone. I didn't transwarp, that capsule contains enough data to reconstruct the SHSS and all of it's registered guests/personnell.

Bearing in mind the fact that the density of intelligent minds in the area is phenomenal, I doubt that a trick like that's going to fool them. You'll find that the ships'll still be there when you reconstruct the ship. An apology to the borg is absolutely fine, but your attitude in general is going to have to be seen to be noticably different and unchangably so before the mercenaries are going to become content to leave you alone. The comment about the mercenaries at the top of your uspace really exemplifies what I'm talking about.

And furthermore, you're contradicting yourself... make up your minds.
From the "H2G2 Mercenary Notification" Thread:
>> We will accept only three things:
>>
>> 1. Captain Venom ends his crusade against the Borg.
>> 2. Captain Venom unconditionally surrenders his station (and >>_himself) to us, in which case it will be destroyed and he will be >> dealt with.
>> 3. The total anilallation of the Starpilot Hotel Space Station and >> the apprehension of Captain Venom.
If I'm not mistaken, number one has happened. You have not accepted. So I believe there is a problem here.

First off, there's a page which is entitled "h2g2 mercenaries:: the official line". Anything not mentioned on that page is not official mercenary policy.
What's more, I don't remember having expressly said that, find no legitimate forum entitled as such, and in any case, the text you provide makes no distinction between whether or not the intention is the accomplishment of all, one, or several of the points. Were they to be points of my creation, I would take it as red that the first point is a necessary, and the latter two points in themselves sufficient, conditions.
In any case, I quite accept that you have "ended your crusade against the borg". My disagreements with you now come from an entirely different angle, based upon your conduct both in the process of having undertaken genocide, and the way in which you treated people hitherto regarded as friendly by yourself.
What's more, "unsubscribing" from a forum and then posting a snipe is somewhat like starting a war and then refusing to fight it: you only illustrate the degree to which you have no coherent strategy, and are acting immaturely, irresponsibly, and without any attention being payed to the spirit of roleplaying.

boys boys boys.....play nice now huh? I suggest all of you go re-read the damn laws of continuity that you all are complaining that the other is not following. None of you have the right to claim that you are following the frikin laws because none of you are! How can you disengage his self destruct system if it's *his*. Neither side can destroy the other without their consent! You can imply all you want that it would take a ship millions of times more massive to destroy the station but it doesn't matter.
Senario:
the earth is destroyed by the vogon contructor fleet, my corvette is on the earth. following the law my corvette is still unharmed floating in space unless I say so. In fact, if I say so, I can start my car and drive off, arriving at the edge of the universe seconds later.
bad gameplay is a different matter and some hear are certainly guilty of that, but stop cheapening and twisting the laws for your own personal benefit

It's on the ABM HQ page... which I shut down for no reason, I see. Perhaps I shall start the Anti-Mercenary Movement. I am returning to this thread until the issues are worked out. *sets up a courtroom*

1, The title "h2g2 Mercenary Notification" means notification from ONE h2g2 mercenary. Me, to be exact.
2, Correct, you have stopped your crusade. However, you have also violated continuity, insulted us and therefore started a completly different 'war'.
3, The referred to problem lies somewhere between the keyboard and chair of a certain computer somewhere in S. California. 'nuff said.
*thinks for a while*
*various songs from various (rubbish, IMHO) pop groups start blaring over the SHSS PA systems, for some unknown reason*

[EVA] Salvage crews coming into dock with Tripwire.
*thinking interrupted*
*slides his wheel-chair over to the Science console and types for a while*
Hmm...
*continues tapping*
EVA, what was the signiture on the 'SHSS' fragments we retrieved?
[EVA] Outputting...
Overlay all near matches to signiture.
[EVA] Outputting...
...
...
Complete. Two matches found. SHSS and UBS Trip...
[Axe] Mute sound. Output to console.
*reads...reads...reads...reads*
Locate all Tripwire-class ships in the area and output to console.
*a space-time map appears*
OK. EVA, shut down Relativity (c) engines.
[EVA] Done.
*thinks for a while*
Unforseen consequences, don't ask. Anyway, what were we doing?

*from behind Axe's seat*
[Robert] You were going on about some stupid spaceship, the Laws of Continuity and a load of other things. I was putting on Kevlar in case things got messy.
[Axe] *turns around* Next time you wander out of RL, will you give me a call first?
[Robert] *shrugs* Maybe. Anyway, that book you ordered came to my house instead of this stupid Wire-Ship-Thing, so I decided to do the good thing and bring them to you.
[Axe] Stupid FedEx employees...
[Robert] *roots in his satchel (identical to Axe's) and pulls out 'Just for fun' by Linus Torvalds*
It's quite a good book, actually. Some of the Open Source comments in it are a bit stupid, but it's still ok.
[Axe] Just give it here...
[Robert] Catch! *throws the book at Axe, who ducks. The end result is that the Tripwire is short of a spare console part.*

[Robert] Anyway, the other reason why I'm here is a lot worse. Read this.
*passes a letter to Axe*
*Axe reads*
[Axe] So you're telling me that your ISP has gone bust?
[Robert] Yes.
[Axe] Oh great...
Sorry about this. I'm stuck on public access computers for the forseeable future. The time limits attached to this make using h2g2 for Roleplaying unviable. I am therefore forced to quit from the h2g2 Mercenaries .
[Axe] Njan, Krans, here.
*passes out a resignation letter to both of them*
[Robert] I'll be listening to this forum for another week. I suggest that you move the 'action' to somewhere else, GSV Internal Cat. for example, because I'll be deleting the page on 12 June 2002.
It's been nice knowing you guys.
*Robert walks off*
[Axe] Sorry... I guess this is goodbye...
EVA, disconnect linear comsat.
*Axe disappears*
