Not that I expect that list to make any dent in your (Kerf's) jingoistic fervour

Actually, most of the anti-American vitriol in this thread has come from places other than the UK.

Speaking as an American, I tend to understand that, too. For example, the reaction in South Texas to the plan for a wall across the Mexican border is a proposal for a wall around Washington, DC. And our unquenchable thirst for oil plus the Bushies' fantasy versions of "truth" may lead to war with ... Canada?

I do hope Canada avoids a two front war, with Denmark (!) apparently threatening the east side ... NATO allies, one big happy family ...

It's funny how neocon right-wingers in the USA and Israel think the solution to their perceived problems is to build walls. Have they forgotten so quickly that the lesson of a wall is that it becomes resented and eventually gets torn down by the people it's meant to control? look at Berlin - it's within fairly recent memory, for goodness sake!

Going off-thread here, that's the thing about the Israelis right now that makes it hard to be supportive and sympathetic to them. Once oppressed and mass-murdered by the Nazis, the Jewish state appears to be adopting an almost Nazi stance itself in its dealings with Palestinian Arabs. We tend to forget the original Nazi plan for the Jews was straightforward deportation (mass murder not necessarily being part of the plan at this stage): when this became impossible and the leadership wanted a harder line, it became outright genocide. Today, prominent Israelis have got to the point of advocating deportation for the "lesser race" living among them... consciously or unconsciously, the Jewish state has learnt from and is following the example of its former oppressors. Israeli propoganda dehumanises the Paslestinians and you can see so many parellels between (for instance) a website like "Israel Insider" and Julius Streicher's anti-Jewish hate-press of ther Nazi era... ("these people are lazy. They refuse to work for a living like good honest Israelis. They are vicious, evil, unreasonable and irrational and prone to savage anger. They live in squalor of their own making. While we have the true evolved religion, they follow a false religion based on anger and hatred which belongs to a primitive pagan age. Their condition cannot be bettered and education is wasted on them. Even if you gave them sanitation they wouldn't know how to use it..." and so on.)

hmmm, nice balanced cogently planned responses are always a useful addition to a thread. Although I personally find they work better when originating from the brain and not the knee.
What's Wrong With Americans
earth-nomad Posted Apr 28, 2009
Having met a number of Americans [and by Americans I mean citizens of the USA] I would generally say:
EVERYTHING!!!!
Loud
Ignorant
Obsessed with being the largest
Utterly convinced that capitalism is the best ideology
Armed to the teeth and then suggest others should not arm themselves
Use way too much natural resource
Generally believe they can bomb their way to peace
Should I go on?
Key: Complain about this post
