Does sporadic have anything to do with spores? smiley - silly

To get back to a sense of freedom, I like to find out that an event planned for later in the day has been cancelled. That makes me feel free. smiley - flyhi

My apologies for straying ...

I have rarely felt 'free' in almost any sense of the word. But the best and nearest was as a earliest teen - In early July, if I didn't have a job yet, I would take what I considered the minimum needs, and off to relatively tame woodlands for a week or so. Just nature and me.

To clarify, although I personally don't have any involvement with the Create team, I think they do an excellent job and want to support them with a conversation which I hope will create a Guide Entry on the theme of 'A Sense of Freedom', which I hope to put into Peer Review at the end of June. As 30 days hath June and it is the 20th June today, we're still only two thirds of the way through the conversation. Who knows what people may say brings them that freedom feeling? I certainly can't predict it.
Anyone could say anything: wearing dry socks after a wet journey to work, having a relaxing bath, being released from Parkhurst, successfully giving up smoking, learning the didgeridoo, snorkelling, the passing of the Disability Discrimination Act, volunteering at a cat rescue centre – the possibilities are endless, and there are ten days left for endless possibilities to be mentioned here.

I look forward to the next reply. smiley - biggrin

It's important to select those actions which actually instil a sense of freedom, as opposed to those that makes someone feel good or happy or comfortable. The latter probably belong in another entry. This one should give an insight into freedom.

Well, to that end, a sense of freedom is going to be subjective. Putting on dry socks may make you comfortable and happy, but to someone else it may be the line between being held down by your job and the freedom of not having to think about it for a day or two. Everyone is going to define freedom in their own way. Some people will want to consider the big picture and a symbolic (or literal) freedom from something, others will be content to consider the freedom of taking their bra off at the end of the day.

Yes, that last example introduces the engineering definition of degrees of freedom.

Good point – for someone like me, a bath is a bath but for others, having a bathfull of clean water free of disease would be real freedom.

herewith, a joke:

A soldier had just been discharged. "I'm free!" he said as he walked down the street.

"That's nothing," said a little kid. "I'm four."

Thank you, Paul. I think that brought the one 'real' freedom to me and my recall.

After 21 years, most of which bore a heavy responsibility for the radio communications of our military - world-wide - and 6 years of keeping the NORAD air picture alive for all of Canada ... The Friday morning that I dropped my uniform for the last time WAS truly freeing.

Yes, I was going directly into the same work on Tuesday. But as a contractor, I felt lighter. Stuff was still my responsibility, but it didn't "weigh" as heavy for that next 16 years.

Being allowed to go to places and do things that members of the public can't gives a sense of freedom. Have you ever had a VIP pass or had a behind the scenes tour?

On Sunday I'll be running along an international airport's runway for charity – that'll be fun.

MMF - Keeper of Mustelids, with added P.M.A., is now in a relationship.

My sense of freedom is being anywhere that could be considered Country, or outdoors. Even a day in Kew Gardens is like being in the Country. I prefer it if there are no people sarong, though, so the wild area to the West is my preferred area. I used to love rambling, or cycling in the countryside, but since my disability has taken hold this is no longer an option, and even reduces getting into gardens like Kew as I am restricted, a little, to the paths. However I do go off-road given the opportunity.

However, if I am down, annoyed or in need of a lift, then grabbing my fiddle and playing for an hour or so gets the endorphins singing. It may start off rubbish as I work out my frustrations and angst, but gradually asI calm down and start appreciating the instrument and the music, there comes that inner peace, tranquility, oneness with the world.

Music truly does sooth the savage breast!

Alas, the tendonitis has also put paid to this so now I am left with my books, music and communicating online with my many friends via Social Media. However the latter can crete as much angst as it resolves...

Switching off the work mobile on a Friday afternoon with the whole weekend ahead.

Hitting a sales target with days still to go until the end of the month.

Cresting a hill on my bicycle and seeing an entire unexplored vista ahead.

The last time I tried to wear a sarong to Kew Gardens, they confiscated it at the gate.
