2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side...

IE, 7 I think Because I'm begrudged to spend the £650 just to upgrade my screenreader to be able to have something compabitle with the more recent versions,

Firefox occasionally, but not if I can help it as its miles slower than IE, which seems contry to how it used to be smiley - huh Actually I just tend to use Firefox for those sites which my screen-reader crashes when using IE. (though I think its actually some active Javascript or flash content on certain sites taht really crashes the browsers mostly with just a little interaction with the screen-reader) smiley - huhsmiley - doh

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side...

They do... or can... Only they're fairly basic ones... Probably, though, good enough for the vast vast majority of blind/partially sighted computer users; Doing E-mail, word processing, online shopping, etc., etc., There isn't as far as I know anything other than the one I use, which would work with my music recording software... And, if there is somethign that would work, with say a differnt make of recording software I'd have to spend close on the price of a new screenreader/upgrade anyhow, in order to buy any decent new recording software package, plus re-learn the last several years getting to grips with the recording software I currently use smiley - groan
The one I use is probably the best, for my purposes, but sadly it is both the most expensive, and the company with the most expensive and uncompetitive view on upgrade pricing smiley - groansmiley - doh Mind, I've bene lucky so far, having got all my previous versions of it paid for either by the Education department (when a student), or via the DWP (when in work)... smiley - doh amd I've been very 'environmental' in recycling my current version of it, by running it well past its point of being upgraded, and into its realm of not really being supported, or supporting more recent web technologies and opperating systems (I couldn't, for example, upgrade (downgrade?), to Vista, or win 7, without first upgrading my version of the software)... smiley - dohsmiley - zensmiley - geek
Talking of out of date software... can you actually still get netscape? smiley - biggrinsmiley - snork

Working Stagehand

You can still get Netscape - but only from the "Netscape Archives". Totally unsupported - & I discovered (while still using Netscape 8, I think it was) that some of the goodies like Flash, etc kill it, so I'm not sure it's really worth trying.

In answer to the OP - Firefox on my Windows 'puter, unless my wife let's me use her Macbook which would be Safari.

Gnomon - time to move on

OK, I've done an approximate tally of the postings above:

Firefox 16
Chrome 14
Internet Explorer 14
Safari 9
Opera 6

So it's more or less an equal split between Firefox, Chrome, IE and Other.

Thank you all for your assistance.smiley - smiley

Persephone - Creator of the best typos around!

Well, another for Firefox, but mine is allergic to flash. The whole thing dies when it tries to load a video.

When that happens, I end up using IE

Gnomon - time to move on

Personally I use Firefox for my Gnomon account and Internet Explorer for the h2g2 Guide Editors account. It helps to have a different look to the screen, which reminds me which account I'm using.

Persephone- I have the opposite allergy, my IE seems Allergic to Flash, and maybe also bits of Java on a page, so I switch to Firefox when needing to get to such a page... Flash is an abomination... smiley - grrsmiley - zen

TRiG (Ireland) A dog, so bade in office

The differences between the different versions of IE are much greater than for many other browsers. IE6 is horrible, IE7 is better, IE8 is almost workable, and IE9 actually deserves to be called a browser.

If you're having difficulty working out what browser you're using, go to http://useragentstring.com.

(I'm currently in Chrome, which claims, inaccurately, to be a Mozilla browser, and also claims, inaccurately, to be Safari. This is for historical reasons.)

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.0) AppleWebKit/535.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/18.0.1025.162 Safari/535.19

Opera, Chrome, Firefox and IE (at work).

(The price of that screenreader's frightening, 2legs. You could buy three decent PCs for that amount! smiley - yikes)
