I remember one meet where we went upstairs and STOLE table 42 because we couldn't have it.

That might, coincidentally, have been the same year we were asked not to come back again.

dragonqueen - eternally free and forever untamed - insomniac extraordinaire - proprietrix of a bullwhip, badger button and (partly) of a thoroughly used sub with a purple collar. Matron of Honour.

Provided I regain my health somewhat and wil be fit for travelling I plan to participate. Haven't been to Manchester for ages, and hopefully there will be less football hooligans than last time.

Seemingly visiting Manchester when there is a football match between two local clubs is not a good choice. I had no say in timing though, since my visit was business related.

These days you can turn up in Manchester when there's a local derby and it's all good natured. Mostly.

There's just a *lot* of people around.

Magwitch - My name is Mags and I am funky.

DQ, there is no local footy that week. It's International Week, so no nasty Reds about (although there will be a rather lovely Blue smiley - smiley)

MMF - Keeper of Mustelids, with added P.M.A., is now in a relationship.

And how are Wigan doing?

Or should it be Manchester RFU?

Anyway, I'm in the Shakespeare next Tuesday, for the monthly Meet of my other group of Interweb weirdos, but 'Table 42' appears to have ...

For guidance for those of us looking for cheap accommodation - what areas are easy to get to, any that should be avoided, any specific budget hotels you'd recommend?

Salford Quays is fine, quite a few hotels, but stay out of Salford itself. South side of the city centre is quieter, but north side has more hotels. There's actually a premier inn type thing near me at Heating Park that the inlaws stay at when visiting, close to a tram stop.

Secretly Not Here Any More

1) There's nothing wrong with Salford. Except for Little Hulton. And Pendleton. And Ordsall. And Hope. And Weaste. And Langworthy. And most of Swinton...

2) It's Heaton Park, the Premier Inn is the Heaton Park Hotel, and the tram stop is Bowker Vale (on the Bury line)

Now't wrong with Swinton, Worsley, Urmston. My northern relatives all live in that area.

An inexpensive option is Ibis hotel, Charles Street.

It seems a number of 'travelling' Researchers are staying at the Premier Inn, Deansgate Quays.
