Nice to see you back
I think Taff sets a standard all of his own. Researcher most likely to get away with swear words *and* researcher most likely to get modded

When they kick at your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun?

>>You realise the BBC now owns those words
I do. But that will not prevent me from stealing my own Guide Entries. Frankly, I doubt theyll mind, or even notice. They havent so far.
And noohootoo might as well licence at least mine as Creative Commons because thats how Ill treat them.
Rrrrrrrr!!!!

You own all the Guide Entries you have written. The BBC just has the permission to use them.

Sorry, got bitten by the backlog... "The Arena" was my idea about what to call the pit/sin bin/bear pit/tar pit/tar&feathers area/robust discussion zone.

Another idea:
How about not moving a thread to the 'pit, but tagging it as a robust discussion/abrasive thread with a or or a .
As soon as a thread/discussion is tagged that way the ranking in the search results should be really low (ie. at the bottom) and not advertised anywhere like on the FP.

I like the idea of arena as I see it as a sporting situation..where people can go into that mode..as I said according to Queensbury Rules. So no personal abuse but say arguments can be floridly ridiculed..and attention drawn to possible head gaming.
I quite like the idea of someone saying to someone, would you like to come with me to the pit for a while? Others could join in. People can leave at any time if they feel uncomfortable.
Most important that a bar is attached.
People may want to take time out in the bar for a while in a friendly way..and then say..okay lets get back at it..
Something along those lines?

But would you need seconds to hold buckets of water and towels? It sounds a dangerous sport to me effers. Lots of blood and sweat and black eyes. Would the scars take long to heal?

No I see it as being very civilised indeed. This is the point of Queensbry rules. Boxing is the most dangerous sport in reality so as far as amateur boxing goes..these are ruthlessly applied.
(I'm not talking about the nonsense of the pro sport)
I can actually see the pit ending up more pleasant than other places..because people will feel free to really attack arguments and question arguments..but NOT PERSONAL ABUSE. The moment that occurs someone could draw attention and it could be amicably settled or someone could leave..or ideally go to the bar together.
Look I don't know...but however we decide things..why not give it a whirl for a month?

Or call it "The Colloseum", a reference to the 'sporting arena' in Rome where most times the clashes were really heated and personal.
