Do you have any plans for the end of the world?

I don't mind it in the least, Effers. I'm simply asking why. No need to get all snarky about a simple question. smiley - kiss

"From the day the Great Tribulation begins until the Return of Christ
42 months
from the currently proposed timeline May 21 to October 8th."

But who will be around to read the calendars? Do we even *have* quake and Armageddon proof calendars? Clearly, someone missed a business opportunity here. Can;t imagine the Raptured will be keeping tabs, they'll be eating all that milk and honey...

I saw "Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny" on TV a long time ago. "Moon on Alabama" is the hit song from that show.

It is, indeed, Paul. smiley - smiley Nice song, if written in somewhat idiosyncratic English. smiley - whistle

I was checking the world earthquake map for the H e l l, and found a line that I don't recall being there, the last time I looked a couple of months ago, for Japan --

Check out the blue link "Time of earthquake in other time zones"

Camping had better get packing...such a waste of oxygen, that one!

Sorry, hit send too soon.

The fact that this nutjob has wasted time and money with his self-promotion is one thing, but that it's impacted on real science sites just P's me off! smiley - grr

That reminds me of my favorite motto:

"The end of the world really is coming. It's just late, like everything else."

I'm confused, SC. You mean you think they put that time-zone conversion in just to calm people down? smiley - huh I check that earthquake site, and there are rumblings around the world pretty often, it seems to me.

I agree, the guy is a nebbish. The worst thing that happened, so far, was that 5,000 Hmong tribespeople had to be dispersed along the Laotian border. They apparently took the warnings seriously, and it caused an incident. smiley - cross

May 22nd has already arrived at the Eastern extreme of Asia, so the world won't *all* end today.

I was thinking about the scene in the film virgin
of HHGG where the Vogons have seeded the sky with
destructor ships.

The camera pulls back to reveal the entire globe
covered and encircled by thousands of these which
are set off simultaneously reducing the planet to
dust.

Now if I knew the exact surface area of the earth
and could figure out the area covered by a 20 mile
radius, such as would be destroyed by a high yield
nuclear weapon, I could then divide the total earth
area by the area of one weapon and come up with the
number of weapons required to cover the entire surface.

But even then I suspect only the atmosphere and the
surface (to a depth less than the blast radius of each
weapon) would be destroyed. The atmosphere and the
crust of this planet have been 'destroyed' and reborn
many times. They will be again. But the sheer mass of
this glorious orb could only be disintegrated by an
equal mass (perhaps expressed as a function of energy
to the power of the speed of light squared).

There doesn't seem to be another planet of our size in the Solat Sytem. Mars comes closest, I think, but it's smaller. Still, the consequences of an impact between the two bodies would not be pretty to contemplate! smiley - yikes

MMF - Keeper of Mustelids, with added P.M.A., is now in a relationship.

>>"The end of the world really is coming. It's just late, like everything else."<<

Maybe 'Im oop there wasn't ready, or he'd asked Bob Crow

to go first, but he called a strike.

And I was looking forward to a lighter rush hour, a solution to the housing crisis, and a cheap 50" tv off of e-bay!

Maybe next time?

Mol - on the new tablet

I was a bit astonished to find BBC news giving the story serious airtime (ie with their Religious Affairs Correspondent) this morning.

Did not see people rising to the skies anywhere near KFC Northampton. But then, the Saints were in Cardiff, weren't they? smiley - biggrin

Unfortunately due to government cutbacks the Vogons had to shelve the
use of expensive bombs to destroy the world and instead went for the
cheaper use of biological weapons. These consisted of a two
functional reproductive units which in time grew to cover the planet
and are now busy dropping bombs on themselves.
