Whilst I recognise the names of lots of those (probably about 2/3s) I'd say I know the hootoo personalities of less than half.
I wonder, how many hootoo folks whom you reserachers have never met IRL would they be able to tell who they were on hootoo if you had a half hour conversation with them "in the pink".

Me too FB. I recognise most of the names but quite alot I would need to talk with again to remember personality. And some I've never really interacted with so I have no idea. But the thing that interests me in making the list is that so many are people I have crossed paths with. I'll remember this next time we have a tumbleweed (h2g2 is dying) thread.
The criteria I've been using for the list is that they have to have posted in the last handful of months. If they're new, then they have to have posted in a number of conversations, or have an EG entry.
I'm sure there are people missing off the list who either hang out in different parts of the site, or have a post-bbcId name that I don't recognise/remember.

Looking at those lists, I would say that I recognise more than I estimated, although by no means anywhere near all of them, but I think my estimate of people who I feel I k now to any degree is probably about right. And helped along by those who I see on Facebook as well...

Yes, I recognise vastly more names than those that immediately occured to me when I first thought about it.
Don't know much or anything about most of you though!
Still, it gives me warm fuzzies to know so many names.

He's been around as long as I have (he emailed me the digibox magic link, and has regretted it ever since )
He doesn't post a lot, but every day, keeping an eye on me
Oh, and I created a personality for Emmily, she's a lot more patient and tolerant than I am.

On a recent visit to the Scottish Gallery of Modern Art, an installation piece by the artist Douglas Gordon struck me. It's simply a list of names in vinyl letters stuck on the wall of the stairwell of everyone that the artist can recall meeting. Standing on the balcony and looking up and down at these long lists of names, it ocurred to me that we interact with so many thousands of people in our lifetimes but how many make enough of an impression that we remember their names?
Anyway, I thought this thread is a bit like that.
The piece is described here - http://www.nationalgalleries.org/index.php/collection/online_az/4:322/results/0/71055/

"I'll remember this next time we have a tumbleweed (h2g2 is dying) thread."
That was something of the point of the thread...
Next question: is nearly 200 active posters enough?
(Exercise in terms of reference: define "active" and define "enough".)

>>Next question: is nearly 200 active posters enough?<<
I'd guess that would depend on how many of the nearly 200 are active in Peer Review and writing Entries for the Guide, which apperently is the whole reason we're all here. Unless of course I've totally misunderstood something over the years, which wouldn't be unusual
I've given up on PR, they keep moving the goals posts...

I'm just happy to be in an advertisement-free, old style convo board that is free and has a lot of old friends.
Plus I assume no one is tracking my likes.
And no one is keeping track of my years-to-entry ratio!
