How many active personalities at h2g2?
BMT Posted Dec 5, 2010
I can only go by the fact I put Littlemightyblue as a new researcher as her original a/c was inactive for a while prior to the new BBC ID changeover and she missed out on the change, hence her new a/c and date. No point using her original a/c details as they are inactive and cannot be re-instated so therefore null and void. That surely has to apply to any a/c that, as I said earler, have been closed/banned or have 'no recent postings'.
I'll await the list when completed and then we'll see.
In direct answer to Rev.Nick, it would be the August 2010 a/c that would be valid for this exercise.

Using the original criteria, the list could become much less than the "who has posted since June" thing. It would really become more of a 'who has had the time to hang about here since June?' Employed or otherwise free to be here . As to the notion of a personality that people would recognize?

Topic drift, m'dear... The census is just what it is, and not necessarily related to the OP. (I don't have much of a personality to be discerned, especially since I've been mostly lurking for awhile now)

It'd still be good to know what the current criteria are.
I'm not sure what the point is of listing when people joined if we don't list the first time they joined.
Hoo/SoRB/Tiggy has never had a lifetime ban despite assertions that this is so.
>>Yes, a couple of us have been banned and invited to return.<<
Was it a fancy, engraved with gold lettering kind of invite?

And Voice in the Mirror and Fred-something. Never paid attention to the U numbers so I don't know if those two were the same U-number as Tiggy or wholly different accounts.

No fancy engravings, Kea, just a polite reply to one of many older e-mails that suggested that I could return if I wished. And so I did. I missed some friends here that aren't e-mail or FB sort of folks ...

The problem is if there are links provided to the PS in question. It would look pretty odd if the list said someone joined in 2003, but then you go through to their PS and it says 2010.

Did Justin get banned, I wondered what had happened to him.
Oh, jeez, I was the Ace that welcomed him to hootoo (original account, I think he had more than one), and felt quite protective towards him, though he was quite capable of taking care of himself, and as an atheist, I couldn't agree with anything he said regarding religion whatever.
IMO Justin, like many people that have been ripped apart by the hootoo community are their own worst enemy. Nowadays, I just grab some sit back and watch

After nearly 3 years I'm still on probation. I've never had an email telling me that has been rescinded.
But the way I look upon it is that I pay £145 a year to the BBC..so if I wish to come back I shall. And if they don't like it they can take me to court.

It was nice to re-visit this thread 2002 was before I had a PC, and all my posts were via digibox. I eventually gave up on that thread, everyone (except Justin) was ignoring me, and just continued to question Justin.

OK, probably going to regret posting this, but here goes.
kea: "Hoo/SoRB/Tiggy has never had a lifetime ban despite assertions that this is so."
Fascinated to find this information out, kea, thank you so much.
Where did you get it? How would you ever discover such a "fact"? Are you privy to moderation/banning emails, despite not working for the BBC or even living in the same hemisphere?
Or have you just, y'know, made it up because you think nobody would dare or be able to contradict it?
For information:
U114627, screenname originally "Hoovooloo" (referred to as Hoo, HVL or just H), later "Son of Roj Blake" (referred to as SoRB). Field Researcher badged, 25 Edited Entries badged, joined March 2000. An account of reputation, as the jargon had it.
Definitely lifetime banned May 23rd 2008 for the apparently unforgivable crime of persistently addressing another h2g2 researcher by her original screen name, the name her ACE used to address her when she registered, the name still visible even now on her personal space. That was the reason given in the email notifying the ban. Work that out, if you can.
Never invited to return. Fascinated to hear such invites are made. Would love to receive one. Won't be holding my breath.
U189490, known as "Satyaselfdownandhaveacuppa";
U189491, known as "Squint_see";
U189492, known as "fenceblossomboy";
U189493, known as "Brainy Brunette Bloke";
U189494, known originally as "Violent Duplicity".
Five accounts created in as many minutes on the morning of Feb 2nd 2002 for comedy purposes. First four used for about two days for that purpose, then pretty much abandoned. Latter one later renamed "Frumious Bandersnatch" and used to produce the scurrilous A4296738, Peer Reviewed, accepted into the Edited Guide and then summarily deleted therefrom a few months later at the behest of "Editorial Policy". F19585?thread=288228.
Not sure of the banning status of these five accounts, but assume they were suspended at the same time as U114627, as there was never any attempt to conceal from h2g2 staff that all were the same person (same signup email).
U13726017, only ever screennamed "Smokehammer", not really known as anything else except to people who saw through it (and given what you see if you click U114627, one could reasonable describe the disguise as "transparent"). Registered December 2008. Wrote an entry on how to fry eggs which got some people very annoyed for some reason F13950842?thread=6688916 . Lifetime banned July 7th 2009 on the entirely reasonable grounds that U13726017 = U114627. Fair enough. (Note to kea: that'll be not one but two lifetime bans. OK? )
U14090063, only ever known by the default username "amphibiousFilibuster" - created, made two posts and abandoned August 3rd 2009. Used solely to post once to the peer review thread above and once to the relevant userspace the information that the Smokehammer account had been suspended permanently, and that therefore the Peer Review thread and the entry it referred to were effectively dead. Unsure of banning status, but see above.
Taff the thingist said: "he was also smokehammer". Accurate. Well remembered.
HonestIago said: "And Voice in the Mirror and Fred-something."
I don't suppose it comes as any surprise to anyone, given that it's HonestIago posting and she can usually be relied on for this, but that is a complete load of old cobblers. Do you do it on purpose, or can't you help yourself?
I would, honestly, be fascinated to see any posting by these two accounts, assuming they aren't figments of HI's paranoid imagination. I can state categorically they have nothing to do with me, and given what I've said above, why would I lie?
Then again, why would HonestIago lie? What do you possibly have to gain by making this kind of nonsense up? I honestly (!) don't get it.
There. Probably scuppered this account too, now. Still, got another Edited Entry in. You've got to chuckle.
Seriously - if anyone can point me at any postings by "Voice in the Mirror" or "Fred-something", I really would be interested, assuming, as I say, that HI didn't just make them up.
Cheers, and possibly goodbye.

The 'Fred-something' was Fred Kite. I think (very vague memory) that Voice in the Mirror and Fred Kite were consecutive names for the same account.

The hidden post was mine, and I am not sure why ... I replied to Tiggy and others about my banning and the converations that ensued.
Apologies for de-railing things ...
