>>I suppose they all would want to get rid of careers advisors pushing students into fruitless University courses leaving them them with a £10000+ debt and few job prospects.<<

Perhaps, though I'm yet to meet such a mythical creature myself. Since I work in the field, and you don't, you'd think that maybe, just maybe, I might have a better understanding of it than you...

... sorry, I don't know what came over me, using reasoned argument like that.

Not a chance Whoisit. You see I followed my old grandmother's advice and got a trade, married, bought my own house, and had kids.
Would you believe it worked.
Of course quite a bit has happened in between. smiley - smiley

No I wouldn't, because what I see is a bitter and ignorant, racist old homophobe. If that's what your grandmother's advice created then it wasn't worth the paper it was written on.

>>A career is a wonderful. You should try it.<<

I have a career dear. It's the only reason I'm awake, suited and booted at 6.30am.

A career stage that comes to most. A stage that people of your age tend to ignore. My old grandma lived through two world wars, no welfare state and no university education. smiley - ok

Mol - on the new tablet

Husband is a school lab technician so I don't think that counts as a 'higher level' worker.

Depends upon his technical skill. If he is responsible for maintaining the lab and lab equipment in a safe working condition then his work could be more important than that of the teacher.

The Con-Dem stupid crowd sourcing for what cuts should happen seems to haver turned into a Daily Mail/Express message board.

Classic type of suggestion is forced sterilisation of the poor...

A quick look at the link doesn't show that only the poor should be sterilized in order to ensure that they don't give birth to too many unwanted children.

smiley - rolleyes Surely everyone, with a modicom of rasoned thought, realised the hijacking of the message board was the <devil act of trolls - hence the phrase "Do not feed the trolls" smiley - doh Puerile stereotyping of particular newspaper readers is as bigoted as those you claim despise, FB smiley - winkeye

smiley - cheerup I guess the upside of over promotion of homosexual (and sapphic) behaviour will ensure they don't give birth to too many unwanted children. Not my choice of behaviour, I prefer to remain a priapic procreator. Vive la difference!smiley - cool

I love this: the promotion of the homosexual lifestyle. It is one of the most retarded phrases ever coined and as such readily identifies those who really shouldn't be trusted with sharp implements.

By promotion, I assume you mean 'allowing them to live the same life as everyone else'? If not, can you explain to me what the hell its supposed to mean?

on a related point to this, has anyone read 'the forever war' by joe haldeman

cloning has been perfected and 90% of the world are homosexual, its promoted by the govt. as a way of population control, to have children you must apply for a licence and then make a donation and a baby is 'quickened' from both samplessmiley - winkeye

I think we should be actively promoting the gay lifestyle at every opportunity - and not just because it leaves more birds for the rest of us smiley - winkeye

A few weeks ago we got new neighbours in our wee cul-de-sac. I met John as he was unloading a removals van. Nice guy, I helped him unload the van - cos I'm a helpful sort. And because the wife's a nosy sort I couldn't help but notice the very expensive furniture, the expensive HiFi, the Apple this that and t'other and smiley - envy the Zeppelin i-Pod dock. Over a beer, he told me how he used to be in finance but now he buys and sells stuff on Ebay and makes a living at it. In fact, he's quite proud to be a "house-husband" to his partner, William.

Now, I'll admit the beer went a wee bit lumpy there but only for a second. This is 2010 after all smiley - biggrin

Of course, I met William. He has his own firm of contract electricians. Which was quite handy cos he was able to suss out and fix my garage's electrics in 5 minutes flat.

Anyway, where was I going with this? Oh yes, I remember. John & William are only a couple of years younger than me and they bought their house in the cul de sac where we rent ours - cash. They also have a "wee villa in Portaventura" so anytime the wife & I want a "wee getaway" we just have to say. They're over there 3-4 times a year in addition to their "real" holidays. They both have nice cars - a 59 plate Disco and a 10 plate Mazda 6 which put my R-reg Scorpio to shame.

As my wife was pointing these things out to me (again), I had to say in my defence that we'd had a child to bring up and educate. Some may say that's the most worthwhile thing in the world but those who know me a wee bit from my posts over the years will know that it wasn't always easy with my step-son.

So the point, the point is - hetero couples have kids who are a drain on society (at least during childhood) and who leave their parents emotionally, physically and financially shattered. I look around at what I have, how much I earn and how much tax I pay and it pales beside that of John & William. They're collectively clearing over £150k a year, buying houses with cash, paying oodles of tax and not requiring society to pay for any child's health or education. They never took child benefit and never claimed Family Tax Credits.

It's all on the credit side where gay couples are concerned. In the current financial climate, I feel that we should be pointing these benefits out to kids in schools. Hold up a picture of the happy, wealthy and fulfilled William & John and compare it with the stressed-out, almost broke and frankly wondering if "bending to take the strain would have worked out better" SWL

Of course you can be childfree without being gay, and similarly you can be gay and have children. Isn't this tangent a bit silly?

Is trying to keep up with the joneses , gay or otherwise, a way of life to be recommended ? My neighbors had a 'Roller' in the garage and their grandkids went to school in Switzerland.

Where is this thread going now smiley - erm I have to admit, I do enjoy the tangental thinking a thread takes on smiley - offtopic

I have absolutely no intention of keeping it up with the homosexual or sapphic 'Joneses' Their choice, not mine smiley - winkeye

None-the-less, as a public sector worker I am concerned the way the the professionalism of front line staff is being under mined in the interests of saving money. In the bad old days it was "Can you fight, good you can join", when I came into my current role it was "Do you have at least a 2:1, good then you can join" Now we recruit on the basis of how polictically correct the appointment, regardless of abilty, coupled what ever is cheapest and most likely to be transitory.

The point is that those pursuing a stereotypical gay lifestyle are less of a burden to society than those leading a stereotypical hetero lifestyle. They are the ultimate Dinkies, contributing more than their fair share.

Given that Labour spent us into penury, it makes sense to promote gay living.
