Harry Potter 6 - the Spoiler thread

Post 341

Hmm

I didn't mean that Harry *would* go over to the dark side...just that he's using spells that are considered dark arts. It's been pointed out that some wizards (like Dumbledore) have the ability perform dark arts stuff, but choose not to.

I was just idly wondering if this might be some kind of 'test' that Harry has to overcome.

I wonder why the dark curses are even taught, wouldn'T the temptation just be too great for some?

You'd need to know the Unforgiveable Curses and other Dark Arts so you could dodge or deflect them or otherwise defend yourself against them

Hmm

But Moody's an Auror, besides I don't think he uses them.
Are the curses usually taught, or is that just something Crouch jr did?
I could be wrong though.

I agree. It does seem that you'd have to know what the Dark Arts are to defend yourself against them.

Yes, but by the time thy'Re said, it'S too late - I think *naming* the spells is the risk, unless there's a reasonable chance they'd come accross them written down somewhere and have to know *not* to use them!

No, as Harry showed the Imperius Curse can be resisted and the Cruciatus can be withstood. Even the Avada Kevrada can be dodged by disarming somebody. What was the fourth Unforgiveable Curse incidentally?

There were just three that Moody taught.

Septumsempra is pretty nasty though and that's the Half Blooded Prince's creation... Snape.
