Terry Wogan or Chris Evans?

"I vote for Liv Tyler"
**worries about how few people will understand that reference these days**
I am wondering how many people in here have actually listened to Chris Evans on the radio. For all his annoying facets, he is a remarkably personable and sympathetic radio host. Better him than Steve Wright.
Personally, I'd like to see Alex Lester get a promotion from the graveyard slot.

On the radio just for you
Listening to it right now. http://www.l107.com/listen_again/MMMPI.mp3
Go on - tell me he wouldn't be good on R2

Well, it seems to me that all of the best bits of Wogan were/are scripted by his listeners. It just needs someone to read them out, providing that they can continue to offer a friendly platform.
I believe that Evans might even do that better.

Do you know, that's a really interesting thought, Old Buffer, because Evans does read out a huge number of texts and emails already.
Interactive radio, eh? I remember when interaction was sending stuff on a postcard to London W1A 1WW.

As a R4 listener, I'm not bothered v much. I used to listen to Sarah Kennedy and Wogan but then got fed up with pop music in the morning, except 'calming down' stuff - which, if I need, I get from R3 or Classic FM.
Having heard a bit of Evans the other day, I agree that he's definitely not right for a TW replacement.
I also agree with some others that Ken Bruce would seem to be the natural successor. I wonder if he was approached. It'd be interesting to know.......

I have a feeling Chris Evans will have been the only one to be approached.
The BBC have been trying to make R2 younger for sometime since it's essentially radio 1 for people in their 40's when they were listening to radio 1 20 or so years ago.
He's also the drive time person which is the other big slot.
He's also back as the BBC golden boy since he seems to 'get ratings'.
Does his drive-time show get more listeners than the breakfast show?

Not only R2! They seem to be trying to make EVERY station and channel 'younger', and that despite the fact that we are an aging population with about 1/3 of us over 60!
Are we not allowed to slow down/calm down once we've had enough of pop and rock etc? Ken Bruce is ancient enough for the oldies among us to feel at home with him. Evans is and will always remain that young upstart who got up to all sorts of daft not to say idiotic pranks. If Woss Brand hadn't have done the phonecall thing, then you can bet your life Evans would have eventually.

What the BBC has forgotten is who pays their inflated executive wages and pensions and who funds the ridiculously generous fees paid to the likes of Woss and the Ginger Whinger, yes the majority, the baby boomers.

The BBC's big mistake was numbering Radios 1 and 2 and tying them to an age-range instead of branding them (Radio GooGoo, Radio GaGa, perhaps, or Rock Radio, Smooth Radio, or whatever) and tying them to a generation. If they'd have done that the audience and the station could have grown old together, and the Beeb cuold have launched new radio stations every 15 years or so.

I was looking for comparative listener numbers between Wogan and Evans. The Telegraph says Wogan gets 8 million per day and Evans 5 million per week. Is the gap that big?

I think we should be grateful for small mercies and not make a fuss.
They could have given us Graham Norton
