2,002,009 years ago. It was a Friday, about tea-time. A blonde babe called Racquel put on some furs and asked "Does my bum look big in this?".
It must be true, I saw it on the telly.

"""""""Nobody anywhere will be able to thell you this for certain. It happened just too long ago.""""""
Fair enough.
How about this for a theory, since there isn't one coming on here.
The evolution from simians to man never happened. Those simians are just extinct species.
When God sent down to earth the first man and woman they both covered their private parts as they had an inbuilt morality of modesty which simians have never displayed to this day.
The conclusion is man has always covered the private parts and covered other areas for warmth etc.
What do you say folks, not all at once please.

Well, for it to be a theory it would need some supporting evidence.

So the tribes in South America, Africa and South East Asia are monkeys then?
Or were they sent down by a different god who didn't have sexual hangups?

Just my luck to be descended from the anally-retentive god.

Ooooh, I've got it now! You're so close Stanley. Indeed, it were Adam and Eve and it was all to give artists the chance to paint all these pretty leaves.

stanley, you've already been given that answer several times *on the first page* of this thread:
post 8 gave you the answer you've just finally admitted to.
post 19 repeated it: 'Yes, stanley, we have a god-given impulse to cover our shame since that woman Eve screwed up and ate the apple.'
Please be honest and admit that this is the only answer you will accept, no matter what evidence is offered to the contrary and no matter how little evidence you have to support your benighted view.
Your mind is closed. You refuse to read the books we suggest to you, dismissing them as nonsense.
Meanwhile, your interlocutors have very open and curious minds, interested in investigating evidence of all sorts of things.
We know where you stand on this Stanley, but, everyone else, raise your hands if you've read Darwin, the Bible, and the Qu'ran:

crap stanley crap
man and woman were naked in the garden and only started to cover up after they ate the apple and got original sin
if god had his way man would still be naked because god is a PERV
mankind developed and derived morality from knowledge, not from god and they were condemed for it
go back and read your ghost stories

... you state that God gave them modesty and they covered their private parts for warmth... weeelll... does anyone else see the mistake here?

O.K, two points from the friendly responses so far.
1. Not a single poster has given any evidence or even a logical theory as to why early man, monkey man or whatever you may call it decided to cover their private parts out of the blue.
2.The first man and woman were in paradise not on earth originaly and were only given the morality of modesty when they were sent down to earth.
It makes sense when you know.

I think we all knew you want the magic apple thing to be true. I prefer to make inferences based on the different cultures around the world, and archeological records, instead of basing it on what it says in an old book.

If animals had modesty, how many of them do you think would be able to knit or sew clothes anyway?

"""genesis 2:8"""""
The Bible(old testament) has many verses which are the words of God but it also has many which have been altered by man. Therefore I don't use the old testament but the final uncorrupted testament.
""""you try running a lot in the buff and you can do yourself a right mischief""""""""
Fair point but fails as a women with no upperbody would not have the same problem.

Can I just say that once again we have the typical responses of a god-botherer:
one-liners
never answering a question
always saying everyone else has to provide proof but never himself
and the constant and un-necessary use of: the mark of someone who can't back their own 'comments' up so merely try to deride others with .
They have been and they have gone...stanley is merely another flea...and not even a good one at that.

I'll take you up on point 1. ' Not a single poster has given any evidence or even a logical theory as to why early man, monkey man or whatever you may call it decided to cover their private parts out of the blue.' Stanley:
You're lying. For example, a very large volume of evidence and closely reasoned explication in direct answer to your question was offered to you in post 28. You dismissed that evidence as 'nonsense' without bothering to investigate it.
Furthermore, in post 40 I pointed out to you the logical innevitability of evolution by means of natural selection given readily apparent facts of biology (heritable variation and differential reproductive success).
Please be honest and admit that you are not interested in hearing any evidence or argument which cannot be expressed in a single extremely simple, one clause sentence. Indeed, be honest and admit that you started this thread with an unshakeable conviction of what the answer must be (God did it), and with no interest in actually having a discussion.
Do you believe in talking donkeys?
