sorry, but I saw an ad yesterday that made my blood boil.

'For women who aren't ready for cosmetic injections...'

Sorry, what?

Aren't ready? Like it's something I'll get around to when I stop being a wimp and realise I need insert toxins under my skin to be a real person... smiley - grrsmiley - steamsmiley - grr

It's disgusting to even imply that it's an inevitability like that.

Well, I suppose it's inevitable really, if you want to stay looking attractive for your man/partner.

Isn't there a weightwatcher's advert that has a similar attitude?

Husband of the advert's subject...

Heh heh, you're a clever one Hoggy, leaving me a chilled mocha to distract me smiley - smiley

Naw, it's ok, I know a psmiley - bleep-take when I see one. Usually. smiley - biggrin

Orcus, the diet one annoyed me but not as much as a WOMAN (supposedly some sort of consultant or other, a professional woman in her 30s/40s/50s or something, I dont know there was a red mist...) talking about these women who were obviously not facing up to the fact they were going to need surgery and cosmetic injections eventually asking for a face cream that did the job just as well.

The best (worst) thing is, they dont just mention it as an introduction to the product, they repeat the 'if you're not ready...' line at the end too. It's deliberate and completely and utterly reprehensible in my opinion.

The whole idea that any woman (or man) would aspire to look like Joan Rivers, and that is the 'norm' just grinds.

I feel (or fear) it's an imopsed 'American norn' at that, so that does not wash with either.

On the other hand, I did see an advert I thought was reasonably clever and not too irritating. Cant for the life of me remember what it was or what it was for though smiley - biggrin

Yes, I had a good rant somewhere recently about cosmetic surgery. Probably the Petty Hate thread. I really don't get it. I don't understand why anyone would ever want to look like Joan Rivers. If I'd wanted a plastic woman...

WanderingAlbatross - Wing-tipping down the rollers of life's ocean.

Didn't I read somewhere that the reason our Actor Grandes Dames Helen Mirren and Judi Dench get so many good film parts is because they can express so much in close ups due to the fact that they can move their faces unlike a lot of their botoxed and lifted rivals.

Didn't know whether to post this to here or Science EXplained...

Advert for pregnancy tests "indicates pregnancy up to six days before your first missed period" or something like that.

a) why does a woman need to know that far in advance whether she's pregnant? If there's a valid medical issue I don't think this is the brand of test on which the medical profession would rely.

b) if not pregnant, there isn't a great deal she can do to rectify the situation, like quickly have another try. If there's a chance that she's pregnant, the window for conception must be way past, surely.

Thoughts? smiley - erm

More to the point, it's still too late to undo what you've done if you *dont* want to be preggers!

It's a sales ploy, pure and simple. If you can check earlier, you'll check more often. Scamming smiley - bleepers. It's playing on women being emotionally involved here. I know so many normally quite sensible and sane women who, one side of the fence or the other, will do several tests in a month if they are not talked down (obviously not constantly, but when it becomes an 'issue', whether they are 'trying' or 'trying not to'!)

Nice little money spinner that.
