I'd not thought about that bit Robyn
I agree on the "emotionally involved, slightly desperate" idea, women who'll try anything, as often as possible, to get the result that they want. I figured there was no useful science behind it, just a financially lucrative play on the emotions.

I tested early both times because I suspected I was preggers and I was going to a do and wanted to know if I could have a good drink or not! So useful for me...

What's that allergic to sheep business all about then?
I can follow the teutonic lass leading the young lad into a hayloft, in a retro, soft prawn kinda way, but how Piriton is going to help the bloke stuck in his Cortina eating sandwiches, surrounded by sheep, is a mystery.

Insect bites? A general link to the countryside? No, it's not very clear.
My favourite hated ad at the moment is a Lynx one, the one with the 'eye man', it's horrible.

Yes, that annoys me too.
I know someone mentioned it before and it didn't bother me at the time but the weetabix ad with the family now gets right up my nose.
It's the 'I eat weetabix before running a marathon as it's 'energy' food' bit that really irritates me...
because they then cut to a scene where she's slicing a banana into it.
OK, so banana <==> weetabix
Let me guess which one is the *real* energy food.

Too much of that combo, you'll be running alright.
I'm non too happy with the Sky+ advert featuring Michael Parkinson, in particular the words "pure machine." Now really!

I'm grinding my teeth at the adverts that precedes programmes on Channel 5. A car screeches to a halt and covers one or two words to alter the meaning of the phrase. Or it drives off to reveal a hidden word.
First time I saw it, I thought, "ok mildly effective".
Second time, "%@~$ off"
Third time,
Fourth time, through tv screen.

I don't mind that advert actually; shame the car's a Kia
The advert that really gets my goat is that Lynx one with the man with the chameleon eyes. He freaks me out and he's not even good looking

The current DFS ad has me reaching for the off/mute switch. It's not the product, although I don't think much of their furniture. What gets me is the people jigging about to 'Rockstar' by Nickelback, trying to pretend to be rock stars. It's an appalling rip-off of the video that went with the song. On the video, members of the public just mimed a few words of the song. Few, if any, tried to pretend they were rock stars. Whoever came up with the idea for the ad wants shooting.

Cheerful, I'm in complete agreement with you. It's the sight of these poor people being paid to do what we brits *dont* do best. Pretend to be cool in genres we are unfamiliar with.
And nobody looks cool dressed as your nan pretending to be 'rock'.
Hell, nobody looks cool (not even a genuine rock star) in a sofa advert!

'Haagen Dasz - For longer lasting pleasure'
So purred the husky lady on my telly last night.
I laughed so much I cried a little and my sides hurt.
So, all I need to guarantee a good night in with a fella is a couple of Viagra and some haagen dasz? (One to get it up one to keep it there?)
Nice.

I don't know whether this is advertising stupidity, or whether the ad companies believe that viewers are stupid. The problem is ads for pain-killing medication that claim the drugs go straight to the source of the pain, or target the pain in some way. This is complete baloney. The drugs are carried throughout the body. You only notice their effect on the pain because it goes away.
The particular ad that's bugging me at the moment is for some drug called Feminax that claims to be especially for relief from period pains. The active ingredient is naproxen, a general purpose NSAID used for rheumatic pain and migraine, amongst other things. Claiming the drug is good for one particular purpose is misleading, IMO.
There are other pain-killers whose ads claim they 'target the pain'. I think Nurofen (ibuprofen) is one. I wish the companies would stop making these ludicrous claims.

The current Right Guard ones on the radio are particularly annoying. The basic premise of the ad is a day in the life of our protagonist - there seem to be three scenarios: one is a pizza party in the back yard (great fun!) the second is the birth of your twin son & daughter (happiest day of my life!) the third is getting a promotion at work (Yay! More money!)
At the end of each ad, the singing starts: "You had a bad day..."
In what way are these scenarios "bad"? they sound great to me.

Blimey and I thought we had it bad in the UK.
In the USA for the week and I've just seen some cowboys sitting round a fire, strumming guitars and singing...
to the Elvis tune...
'Viva Viagra'
Woo hoo!
I thought this was the realms of email spam only

There's some ad for a Chevrolet SUV that's particularly irritating me at the moment. Shows a couple of kids playing with a model of the car and some toy figures, and then flips to a full-size scene where the car and the people are real. And the kids appear to be using the car to crush the figures
Exactly what are they trying to say here?
