Possibly not the one you were meaning, as it's a tad old: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/F19585?thread=276080 Can you give us more clues? How long ago and was the phrase 'infinite monkeys' used?

OK, not so long ago, there was a thread about the best free anti-virus software to replace AVG.
AVG is now getting on my wick too. Can I have that thread back please?

For some reason, I think Titania started it, but she's quite au fait with that sort of thing, so perhaps she was one of the ones that answered. I've had a bit of a look, but can't help, sorry.

Probably not either of these threads but they will do as while I keep looking.

Not me TC, I'm currently sticking with AVG (the version you pay for) and am satisfied so far.

Somebody was asking advice on bike lights recently (ish) and I was wondering how they got on. Any idea where the thread was?

I've come across a place where leaving a link to a specific conversation from here would be helpful and, after searching for quite a while, I can't seem to find it. It doesn't help that, the longer I search, the *less* certain I am of search parameters
Anyway, it was a discussion started by Hoovooloo (don't know which of his accounts) and the main responder I remember is agcb (not sure which of *her* accounts). I'm not sure when it was started, but I'm pretty sure it was this decade. I'm not even sure if Hoo's post was the initial post, or if the discussion came about via topic drift (though I think it was the former). I *do* know it was in Ask, however, because Ask and SEx are the only places I really come across Hoo, and I'm certain it wasn't in SEx because it's just not a science question (unless I'm wrong and it was topic drift...) If it was topic drift, it was *not* one of the God threads, because I avoid those like the plague--the same with any thread with a title that looks like it's going to immediately create conflict. (Those that know me know I avoid conflict...)
Anyway, as I recall, the thread was discussing adoption vs. IVF , with Hoo saying that, with so many adoptable children, infertile couples/women should adopt instead of seeking treatment, and ben (and others) taking the other side of the debate, with one of the arguments being that some people that adopt can end up treating the adoptee as a "replacement" for a "real child."

I was searching for at least an hour...
So roymondo and Z instead of Hoo and ben. Though ben showed up later.
Of course, the length of my search had *nothing* to do with the fact that there's a similarly named thread that was definitely not what I was looking for, so I didn't even look at this one
