And I mean the students that are currently all over h2g2 asking for phone interviews, not just students in general.

Both, as it happens. But I get annoyed by students all the time in my job.

So just me and Master B then. No-one else, even a teensy bit annoyed? I must be just very grumpy then.

There are students around here..... Wait, no wait, I'm definitely one.
Why are they asking for phone interviews?

It has to be said, Mina, I do think you're being a bit more grumpy than is quite necessary.

They haven't approached me directly but someone else did on their behalf, asking if I'd like to help. No, I wouldn't.
If I wanted to do some kids homework for them I'd either go to work, (where I get paid to do it) or stay at home, where I have 2 teenagers. I certainly don't want to come here and do it as well.

I dunno, Master B. I've seen a few of these recent postings by students doing some sort of research and asking long-standing members of h2g2 to submit to an hour-long phone interview with them.
But it does seem like there are a lot of them about. Don't know if Mina has been subjected to one or many asking her - and of course she could just say 'no' - but it does seem a bit of an odd thing to ask people here. Surely they could come up with an email questionnaire that people could answer - why ask for personal phone numbers and an hour of someone's personal time?

What are they doing research for?

A University research project apparently. And there's only three of them.

Well, I'd certainly not give out my private home phone number to someone like this - would you, Master B?
Seems weird to me.

I did say no, and they took it gracefully. But it seems like everywhere I go, there they are. And other Researchers haven't exactly been gracious when they asked them, either.

I wish that we did not have to conduct phone interviews myself. Besides personal and privacy reasons, there have been many in this community that have given completely valid reasons for why it would be better for our study to conduct interviews through a chat client. I tend to agree with these, and for my personal reasons as well. Unfortunately, our professor requires phone interviews because of the enhanced expression of the medium.
I apologize for seeming shady in any way.

Yes. After receiving both electronic informed consent as well as verbal consent to record. Portions of the interviews may appear in the written document we create. Pseudonyms will be used. A single identity may be broken into more than one to prevent tracking and matching of identities. Tapes will also be destroyed after March 10th.
These ethical guidelines should have been outlined earlier.
