Shares recover all the money they lost yesterday. £60bn wiped on share values.
Doesn't quite say that though, does it? The Nooz Meeja love the "£xx billion wiped off shares" headline, but aren't quite so keen to print the opposite.

Clive the flying ostrich: Amateur Polymath | Chief Heretic. Posted Aug 18, 2007
Just caught a snippet of a news story on channel 5 while flitting:
Some Hotel fire that's left the place half demolished and several guest unaccounted for.
ah here's a link
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/cornwall/6952947.stm
Well the part that caught my attention eye on the 5 report was that this place had a wooden fire escape.
Let me say that again: a WOODEN fire escape.
Surely that could never pass a health and safety inspection?

If there is actually a fire in the direct vicinity of a fire escape it doesn't matter what its made of. You ain't running down it whether its made of paper, metal, wood or tungsten carbide.

It's difficult to say how genuine this is as there's no effort made in this feature to question or prove the story, which is a shame as this is a fascinating tale. Could be complete hokum though.

then found this story and thought of that quote -

A clever one learns fron someone else's.
Some never take part in the scheme.
