And basically ANY film that can survive Andie says a lot! smiley - winkeye

Truly a wonderful and clever film, superbly acted (well, except for Andie) and probably the best thing that Bill Murray ever did.

So there! smiley - winkeye

I dunno "Ghostbusters" is damn fine.

Also "Kingpin" is one of my "guilty pleasure" films....

Az, you know I dislike disagreeing with you, but there's nothing that's going to make "Groundhog Day" anything but painful to watch for me. So there. smiley - tongueout

Watched "Run Lola Run" last night. It was okay. I could've done without the annoying music score, but the film was otherwise quite entertaining.

Is it just me or did they say 'The bag!' to much?

flakey-lady.... you lookin' at me punk?

psychocandy...do you have dvd rentals in your libraries over there??
i've 'discovered' our town library and it has a fair selection of films...just wondered if you could rent one over there....

i've found a few gems... city of lost children being one...and a dvd of the best of the goodies...'the goodies at last' you have to see it to remember how darned good they were..[only the brits may know of this] but the episode saturday night grease is classic...especially the policechase at the end to music...police running to the hustle, haven't laughed so much in agessmiley - laugh

reddyfreddy i've just read memoirs and saw the film last month...it is quite faithful to the book, a few things are changed around for instance she seduces the hideous general [squid dripping from his over hang lip...barffff] but in the film it becomes an american general... hope you7 enjoyed it...

my elder daughter took littlun to see big mommas house 2 sunday night... to her amazement she quite enjoyed it [older one] said she even laughed out loud... littlun loved it...

and at least i am off the hook to have to see itsmiley - biggrin nicely palmed off onto older daughter...tee hee..

Flakey lady, the library doesn't rent DVDs, but we have been using Netflix for about a year now. We've seen about 200 movies so far from Netflix, their selection is fairly vast. We only do the four-at-a-time option, which means four a week for us. smiley - winkeye We also have two fantastic rental shops in the neighborhood for backup.

Azahar, we've liked other films that the other liked, I just can't remember all of them. I do like the fact that everyone on this thread is so good-natured about other people's tastes and critiques, though. I've had people trash talk films to me that they've never even bothered to watch.

A Super Furry Animal

OK, current films on release...

Want to see Casanova, diappointed there's not a single bare bosom in it, but it looks good from the trailer...

A Cock And Bull Story: Must go and watch this before it disappears (I'm in London, so films tend to hang around longer here than in the provinces, but even so...

I saw "Memoirs Of A Geisha" earlier today. It reminded me of the book (wot I read when it came out (in paperback) mrhmhrhrhmm years ago). I'd forgotten the ending, so I can't say whether the film ended in the same way as the book. I think it did.

Anyway...splendidly evocative film, deliberately slow-paced, some great cinematography, and quite incredible bitchiness! Good film, go see it. Definitely not just a "chick flick".

kelli - ran 2 miles a day for 2012, aiming for the same for 2013

Saw Batman Begins last night (someone lent us the dvd). Long isn't it? Felt long anyway. The new bloke seems better than previous actors in the role, and the whole thing was nicely dark. But basically it isn't my cuppa char so smiley - yawn

Blues Shark - For people who like this sort of thing, then this is just the sort of thing they'll like

On the subject of Bill Murray - Ghostbusters, Small Change, Lost in Translation, Groundhog Day. In that order. (Though I have to say Lost in Translation is a favourite of mine because of it's background as much as Murray.)

Watched recently;

Honeymoon in Las Vegas - Proof that Cage can do comedy, that SJ Parker doesn't need to make me vomit all the time and that you could still make a screwball comedy in the late 20th century. Still love it.

Casino - something like Scorcese, De Niro and Pesci on top form, with a surprisingly good performance from Sharon Stone. Loved it.

Breafast at Tiffany's - hmm. Loved the photography. Suprised by how handsome and good George Peppard was (were did it all go wrong, George?). Hepburn fine. But overall a little dated and couldn't help thinking showing it's age quite badly.

smiley - shark

ahhhhh. Caddyshack? Also ran of a film. Brilliant stoner stoopid performance by Murray. 'He said they'll be no reward now, but on my deathbed I will achieve absolute consciousness. So I got that going for me, which is nice.'

we hired kinky boots on dvd... didn't catch it in the cinema due to babysitting trials....don't really understand why it wasn't a 12a.... if memoirs of a geisha passed as a 12a..............anyway excellent film and british too...made me laugh out loud...

loved the tranny guy.... tranny with a hard edgesmiley - kiss as always in films you come to adore the drag queens, not so sure they are so sweet in real life.. not that i know a great many...but i also loved the birdcage, priscilla queen of the desert, so this film was almost guaranteed a winner for me...

It would be a great ending if you didn’t expect it, but the video copy I own of Don’t Look Now has a picture of the final scene on the back, which gave it away.smiley - erm I love the way it’s edited too – very suggestive and spooky.

smiley - cross How stupid! The first time I saw it I was creeped out for days afterwards, and it didn't help that my then boyfriend would do *that* little head movement at me . . .

Of course, the other very creepy part of the film was Donald Sutherland's hair. smiley - winkeye
