Good Night, And Good Luck. Thrilling look at CBS News' battle against the McCarthy committee. Written, directed by and featuring George Clooney, very good.

I'm not usually a fan of Clooney, but I thought it was fantastic! smiley - ok

ToyBox - how was Der Bader Meinhof Komplex? I may see it this week, but only if it's worth it...

We saw Krabat on Friday. Took a while to get going (none of us have read the book - yet) but it was great.

It was more of an action movie than a political one (focusing on the gang's deeds rather than motives). So I guess it can be a bit frustrating if you're expecting some in-depth analysis of the events.

On the whole though I liked it. And Martina Gedeck (Ulrike Meinhof) was fantastic smiley - magic

And lately I saw: Shrek 1,2,3 and The Seven Samurai. Funnily enough, Takashi Shimura looks like Morgan Freeman.

Saw two films yesterday - truly a lazy Sunday.

Wrong Turn 2 - Dead End.

Law of diminishing returns. I enjoyed wrong turn as a pretty good gore fest of a horror/zombie movie. This was also quite good once the dreadful plot of the first half of the film was forgotten and some of the more irritating characters had been killed off. Quentin Tarrantino would approve of this I think - a real gore fest.
But the dreadfulness of the plot and the acting at the outset of the film was nearly unforgiveable and was it really necessary to put gratuitous sex scenes in there

Jacob's Ladder.

OK an oldie but it was goldie (and I'd not seen it before). If a bit disturbing. And I though Sixth Sense was reasonably original... not anymore. Almost a rip off of this in fact I think.
Good stuff, but not for the fainthearted - fairly gory but actually more of a headfluck smiley - ok

Dog Soldiers (or Soldier Dogs ... I missed the start).

DH was very disapproving that I found a bunch of men fighting for their lives against werewolves somewhat amusing. But ... it was all so *silly* smiley - erm And even he found the flying f-ing cow bit funny.

On the other hand, as I pointed out, normally I'm a fluffy bunnies type of filmwatcher (I don't like harrowing or gore). So at least the film expanded my viewing range.

Clerks. The film that launched Jay ans Silent Bob onto the world scene.

They should have filmed the extra scene! smiley - winkeye

Gus van Sant's latest, "Paranoid Park". The following paragraph contains potential spoilers.

There's not a lot of real "action", the dialog is largely unscripted. Sometimes I have a difficult time with present-day films about teen ennui, because I can't always relate well to the characters. But this kid's withdrawal is caused by a lot more that adolescent angst. The brief moment of violence was like a sucker punch, and I found myself wondering how I would react in a similar situation.

I really enjoyed the film.

Grease - wanted to show the Gruesome Twosome that Disney didn't actually invent the "high school musical". Although they don't agree with me that Grease is better than any of the HSM films.

I'm with the Gruesomes on that one, sorry. HSM3 next week and I'm rather looking forward to it.

They went to see HSM3 last evening - but despite having tickets reserved, the place was so full they couldn't get to the desk to get them smiley - sadface (the cinema is at fault there they had no policy of queuing and several others left disappointed too)

The good news is they have tickets in their hot-little-sweatys for tomorrow and will spend a portion of the day not poking my sewing machine saying "is it finished yet?"

Curse Of The Golden Flower. The Hamlet of Ancient China. If you enjoyed the artistry and storytelling of House Of Flying Daggers and Hero, you won't be disappointed. If you're looking for top-shelf wire-work and chop-socky action, you will be. Still worth the time.

Last Holiday was advertised last night on Film4, and I watched it because I like Queen Latifa and Gerard Depardieu. Predictable ending, fabulous scenery, some bits were smiley - magic and billing it as a comedy was a little strange, I think I shed more tears than laughed...smiley - erm

Worth watching it if comes round again and I really hope Queen Latifa and Gerard Depardieu make another film together, (they weren't a couple in this, and it worked).

Most memorable moment is what Queen Latifa did with the cucumbersmiley - ok which I'll be trying next time smiley - biggrin

Who, me? But I never think anything smiley - doh

Well, let's see: Shoot'em Up I quite liked, getting increasingly smiley - silly as it went. Some sort of comedy where a single guy (Clive Owen) repeatedly shoots (and, occasionally, 'carrots') dozens of machine-gun armed thugs. Indeed I didn't think much during that movie smiley - biggrin Very relaxing in its own way.

Something about Mary was, to my mind, moderately entertaining but with some very funny bits here and there. I didn't regret seeing it, but wouldn't watch it again.

Dr Zhivago - I was afraid that it would look outdated, but finally I didn't think so and didn't see the time pass smiley - smiley
