See now, I said above recently after being disappointed by No Country for Old Men that I just don't get Coen brothers films but the 3 I mostly do are Fargo, Miller's Crossing and .... The Big Lebowski - that was a cracker right enough.

I love Raising Arizona! I tend to like the sillier Coen ones, like Hudsucker Proxy.

Looking forward to Burn After Reading, that's out next week I think.

The Coens have been hit or miss with me, but I also love Raising Arizona, and intend to see Burn After Reading at some point.
We're supposed to get around to "I'm Not There" this weekend. Haven't had much time to watch anything for a couple of weeks.

Fargo and Miller's Crossing are the other two Coen films I really like. I thought No Country For Old Men was all right, but really overrated.

I just thought it was boring frankly, they tend to overdo the style and underdo the substance in my book.
I seem to be one of the few people who hated Raising Arizona

A lot of films I like just for the cinematography, which can cover a multitude of sins.

Me, too. I'm sure I like a fair number of films in which style at least equals, if not exceeds, substance. Also stuff where the substance is fairly obtuse.
We did watch a newer movie last week- Run, Fat Boy, Run. It was OK, but in no way lived up to the anticipation. It was just OK.

Yeah I watched that after recording it off the telly last week. I thought it better than OK, we enjoyed it. But it's still not a classic.
We also have American Gangster recorded and waiting. I'm looking forward to that - Ridley Scott films I *do* get

Burn after Reading's been out in Germany for a week or so now. My son's seen it and he says it's as good as it's cracked up to be. I have yet to have the pleasure.

said Burn After Reading is most excellent.
We're watching Zathura right now, which is great.
And I saw Mama Mia! on the ferry over to the UK. I loved it.

Just watched Requiem For A Dream. I said I didn't mind style over content, in some cases, but this wasn't one. Infuriatingly overblown, and tediously depressing. No likey.

The dark Knight for the second time but this time on IMAX. Even better the second time round. The IMAX scenes were superb and Heath Ledger does deserve an Oscar(not because he's dead but because it was an amazing performance) as do the writers for nailing the Joker/Batman relationship so well.
There should be a chance in January to see the film on IMAX again when they re-release it to get it into the Oscars.

I didn't care for Requiem for a Dream, either, Christopher.
Watched an older flick today, a Criterion release of Fassbinder's "Ali: Fear Eats the Soul". Loved it! Two thumbs up and then some.

And this weekend's Comedy Classic for the kids was Hot Fuzz.
Of course, we are very Bad Parents for letting them watch all that glamorised violence. So I'm now on the lookout for a suitable filmic counterpoint. Any films around which glamorise negotiation and co-operation?

I didn't know that the term for a Lebowski afficionado was "achiever".... I shall now adopt this heartily...
