Why are you suprised I liked it?
I have to say that I've rarely seen an audience reaxct with such unanimity - the sharp intake of breath, the muttering of 'oh god, he can't...' followed by howls of hysterical laughter as you realised he not only can, but he can do worse than you can *ever* imagine.

I've been a huge fan of Borat ever since he got a clothes designer to admit that what they did was as important as brain surgery during his first brief appearances on Ali G. Dammit, I was a huge admirere of Ali G before the joke got old and he made the awful movie.
Baron Cohen isn't low at all - he's asking very hard and difficult questions with this movie, merely in a populist format.

baron sasha cohen is a genius.. the ali g character was clever.. but borat is much better.. he is getting away with incredible unpolitically
correct statements again and again and getting rich on it
from a time when issues are incredibly sensitive he is stomping all over these issues under the premise of being a stupid ignoramous.. but hes getting these jokes over which would land any of us in court if spoken publically or to the wrong ears...
i don't actually like offensive jokes but i was laughing as much as anyone else... clever movie and very very clever baron cohen..[a rich jew now.. having the last laugh]

He's rich anyway isn't he, aren't his family business billionaires or something
.
Personally I got bored with Ali G/Borat a looooong time ago but I must say that given the unanimous verdict both here and elsewhere so far, maybe it's time to dip my toe in again.
Bottle is the word for him though, I do remember (when I still liked him) going to an animal rights march as Borat and telling them that in Kazakhstan, they get the bear and put a ring through it's nose and make it dance. How we wasn't lynched I'll never work out

I'm currently watching "Turtles can fly". (It's paused while my wife is on the phone, but I am enjoying it so far)
A good film but really difficult to watch - in the way that any film featuring a blind infant walking into a mine field is bound to be.
(I don't think this was a good place to pause it either...)

Well, I've seen Borat, make film Benefit Great Nation Khazakstan then.
How on earth he wasn't arrested on several occasions (was he?) or lynched and whether the films profits will be swallowed by a certain famous Babe's lawyers I'm really unsure. I'm assuming some scenes were a set up on that front frankly.
I'm still silently tittering every time I think about some scenes.
...and they wonder why the Khazak authorities disaprove of him

I am certain that the "babe" scene you refer to must have been staged to be honest.

V for Vendetta. A film that did not live up to it's B-Movie style name.
As an avid fan of the weird and unusual, I was compelled to watch this film, even though it did take me a while to get around to it. The B-Movie style title didn't help.
In many cases, films do not live up to their title, in this case it was the opposite, despite the first 20 minutes. Which was filled with the usual corny one liners and smokey, slow motion sequences attached to these types of films.
The movie eventually opens up into a fantastic piece of film making, with supurb acting and excellent writing - even with Natalie Portman in the leading role - I could go in to the multitudes of reasons why this movie is great, but I don't want to spoil it for those who have yet to experience a great sci-fi movie.
Total

Borat - my understanding is that the babe in question was the only one who was aware of the set-up. I seem to recall she was Ali-G'd at some point, so perhaps she likes the madman...
The frat boys are suing, apparently. One of the few groups of people who honestly appear to have no claim whatever that he made them look worse than they are.

I chuckled at that news story.
"SO you got drunk and in front of a camera started spouting drunken shite and you are a frat boy. What exactly is your case for sueing again?"

Orcus Posted Nov 20, 2006
Yes I'd heard they're sueing. Hmmm, the words snowball and hell spring to mind, amongst others if that manages to get to court.

the frat boys scenes weren't staged???? oh my god they were taken in by that??? not very intelligent then...
i went to see THE PRESTIGE last night...it had makings of excellence but i feel it failed ever so slightly, maybe due to the 12A rating.. it was long and ploddy but not unbearable, and i had guessed much of the intrigues... i felt they should have more of the ending/twist.. it is very sinister and disturbing but was played down [i'm talking about the consequences of the fantastic trick.. as warned by david bowie who played a good part]
so i'm a little in 2 minds here...part of me loved it but another feels it was slightly weak... id love to read the book now... the conception is fabulous, very clever indeed!!!

Saw the end of 'Lord of War' with Nic Cage the other day - recorded it to watch the whole thing - but looked pretty decent in a moral quagmirish sort of way...
