Good for you Pingu
Jwf, wouldn't it be better to spend all that time upgrading existing entries that need it (as already happens to an extent)?

Rudest Elf Posted Nov 10, 2007
I must have read some 500 Guide Entries in recent months, so I think I'm qualified to make the following comments:
1. There are some excellent entries in the Guide - perhaps 5%.
2. There are as many that insult the intelligence.
3. Few authors appear to be interested in keeping their entries up to date - and there seems to be no requirement for them to do so.
4. All entries with any factual content need to be checked regularly for 'dating' - no matter how good a 'read' they are (or who wrote them).
5. Most of the entries I've seen contain typos - often so many as to prompt the reader to question the reliability of any factual content.
6. It is ludicrous to excuse non-standard grammar on the one hand, and to 'excommunicate' innocents like 'whilst' & 'spelt'.
The Guide is like the curate's egg - it cannot be cured simply by rushing in new material.

~jwf~ - it would take an awful lot of work, too. I agree with kea, it's a better use of our time to update the sub-standard entries. Some of the old Mostly Harmless one's a pretty useless.

If anybody's stuck for entries, I just found this A2491274
gem on Radio 4 in the Flea Market. I'm going to do this one, but there must be loads of entries in a similar good condition in there. I just went to a random blob and it caught my eye.

I went to the flea market yesterday and even spotted a couple of entries I fancied but they'd already been lifted by other people .... why aren't they moved out of the FM when this happens - just to save time.

I've had some ideas recently but not enough computer time to do much about them, so if anyone fancies having a go at or just helping out with any of these let me know.

PR is looking a lot healthier than it was, so this thread's had an effect. I've even got around to working on something that had been lying around for 7 months

There could be an entry on the pro's and con's of identity cards. I got the idea from another thread.

Pingu, if you want that kettle of fish, it's all yours!

Secretly Not Here Any More Posted Nov 11, 2007
to be honest, I can't see worms getting themselves out of a can, even with the lid open. Fish in a kettle is an entirely different... Kettle of fish I suppose.

But the fish will die as soon as they leave the (water-filled) kettle. Is the brief moment of freedom really worth it?

Arguments over ID cards usually blow themselves out over a similar period. It's religion that's a can of worms round here. They keep going for ages, but if you stay out of the can you're fine.
