Go ahead and take a shot at it if you want. It's just for rhetorical purposes anyway, and I think I've made my point.

As a seasoned globetrotter, I can definitely assert that travel offers a plethora of mind-broadening cultural experiences.
To prove it, I can boast a personal collection of MacDonalds traypapers from 31 different countries.

Missouri.
You have KINDA made a point. You see we aren't required to learn these sorts of things at school (trust me I've seen them), and instead we are encouraged to learn the language and some general culture about the place, rather than the actual places in it.
Also I guess if you visit a place, you SHOULD know what country you're in! Otherwise you're missing out something in itself!

Well, it appears to be in Missouri. Yes, I can use a search engine. What amazes me is that Ford_Prefect apparently can't. Now that *is* insular behaviour.
RF
p.s. New Amsterdam?

Google is American.
Butthis is stupid, PS.
We're just arguing over who knows more geography and history.
I'm american and I can give you Australias history starting from before it was "discovered" and straight on up, tell you about the geography, the sites to see, the flora, fauna, natural wonders. I can also list you all the countries in Africa and their capitals.
So yay.
I'm ejumucated.
Please.
It clearly doesn't make me less insulated and knowlegable, according to some folks here.
So lets get down to the REAL problem.

Can I just clarify that I said America as a COUNTRY is insular...not individual people.

Think I'll chuck this , there appears to be a force 9 brewing in it...
For completeness sake, Travelling from Florida to Texas will involve a change of mindset. But it ain't exactl on the level of going from the USA to Nepal, to Bhutan, to Japan, to France, The Isle of Man and back. You could get a similar difference of culture by taking the motorway from the wilds of Yorkshire to the Wilds of the LAkedistrict, on do it in less than a day.
That doesn;t make it different. It doesn;t make it equal. Just a similar level of difference (from what I have read so far).
You can;t experience the full diversity of the world unless you visit everywhere and talk to everyone. And you ain;t gonna do that. So Go where you're interested, have fun, learn, and realise it isn;t a competition

Caught ya!
Kansas City is basically a single city sprawled on either side of the Missouri River, like London and the Thames. Only problem is, that river also describes the boundary between two states. Therefore, we have a Kansas City, Missouri, and a Kansas City, Kansas.

I DID say that I wasn't in a good position to say anything as I haven't lived in America for a long time or anything!
And right now I'm in Wales.

Er ... no The thread is for discussion. It's not for you to get what you want and then call a halt. Individuals may unsubscribe as they wish.

I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW!!!
The cultural difference between states and countries is different!
I know!
I was really just using it as an example of how much more difficult it is for an American to get someplace truly different!
Do you realize taht for most Americans its about 500 miles to the nearest border?
Key: Complain about this post
