ATT Everyone: Where have you been? Where are you from?
A Super Furry Animal Posted Jul 30, 2004
The "normal" thing in the UK (although this is getting a bit outdated now) is to take 2 weeks' holiday in the summer, to a Mediterranean resort (Spain/Greece/France). The remaining 2 weeks' holiday are used in bits and pieces, when you need a day off for the plumber to turn up, to make long weekends out of public holidays by taking the preceding Friday or following Tuesday off (most public holidays are arranged to fall on a Monday in the UK), and maybe to add to the confluence of Christmas/New Year to take all of that time off, to avoid having to work on 27/28/29 Dec or similar.

Well, you are cordially invited to review the first part of my essay which is comfortably residing in my journal section.
Disclaimer: this is not an invitation to kick around Americans.
It is an invitation to help a fellow human being who hasn't got time to really polish it up alone finish off an essay.
What I'm looking for is advice on grammatical, structural, etc things, as well as general suggestions on accuracy,
and to be told if anything comes across as too overbearing, pushy, or superior, which I would like to avoid.
Also, do I need to be PC and say "he or she" or can I slip by with a 'he'?
And any other random advice.
Thanks for your help.
(and I'm not submitting this for peer review bec. its not for the guide and I figured all those ranting people who helped me gather the info could help me shape it.)

Midnight Ice - the Daughter of a Cacophony of Chrysanthemums Posted Jul 30, 2004
My history is rather sad...
I was born in Australia and have never left the country, despite a desperate desire to do so. My parents seem to be determined to keep me on home soil, much to my disgust, as I would quite like to go overseas, especially to tour Europe and live in Japan for a while (I speak Japanese, to a degree).
Where I have been is only where my parents have - Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia (once, when I was very small, so I don't even remember it) and I am currently living in Victoria. (These are states of Australia, for those who don't know).
I'm hoping to be an exchange student sometime soon.

Fear not. As "assertive" as you may choose to see your posts, they're nothing more than the yips of a tiny chihuahua. Especially since this conversation has covered a wide array of topics, and you proven you don't know anything about any of them... though you seem to feel free to trot out your ignorance as if it were a valid opinion. The next cutting barb or relevant point you trot out will be your first.
Your homework, for the next time you want to bark at me, is to study logic and reasoning. Pay close attention to circular reasoning. I'm pretty sure I've seen a Guide entry on it.

Hmm going back a long way Freddy was right to call Fords over the
Amsterdam whatever county that's in
However as Blathers pointed out it may not be that indicative of anything about americans.
It could just be that Ford cant spell *country* and cant remember which ones he's been to
As to the soldiers I have been to Belgium and met ones who had come over from Germany to play rugby so *I guess* you do get both kinds. I have been on holiday and met Brits who dont leave the hotel complex, partly because its *all inclusive*, but who would want all inclusive when you can get local food dirt cheap
Freddy as you have said we have done terrible things as a nationg to the reorts of the Med. Our spending patterns have changed some resorts into tacky horrible places I claim no part of that but it is the work of my fellow country men and women.
one love

Nice to see you descending to personal abuse, Mugwump! Always the sign that you've made your point.

Leo Posted Jul 30, 2004
oh boy...
funny how all threads seem to end that way, with two people bashing each others brains in.
Say, Ford, i can visualize your town: 3 runaway boys a computer and a cat (?) cycling into Wal-Mart for supplies.
Sounds fun out west. Here in NY the most exciting thing is when they run over a squirrel and smoosh it over half the street.
And now Manhattan is full of tourists and that just makes my life miserable.
Must be nice to have population 4. I may come as a tourist.
ATT Everyone: Where have you been? Where are you from?
Blatherskite the Mugwump - Bandwidth Bandit Posted Jul 30, 2004
Right. Because I'm the one who started showering personal abuse. Because a casual stroll through the backlog will not reveal that you opened up on a pair of young and inexperienced posters. Or that you haven't admitted to being "aggressive" in your posts (whether that bothered me or not being irrelevant).
The Department of Revisionist History is already occupied by Bush and his goons. They don't have any room for you.
ATT Everyone: Where have you been? Where are you from?
Leo Posted Jul 30, 2004
Revisionist history is hollywoods specialty. Not Bush. That's revisionist current events. (misinformed current events?)
Key: Complain about this post
