"Yeah, I'll call your arguments specious, when they are. In what way is that personal? Unless *all* your arguments are specious, of course, and calling an argument "specious" characterises it as one of yours."
Let's save the circles for the ferris wheel.

>>If someone really wanted to travel, they'd just backpack across Europe. <<
Quite funny, seeing as that's what this thread is all about.
Now, of the 1-10 listed, what was your reason?
As for post 101, the only way that it's a circular argument is if you admit that all your arguments are specious. Is that what you're saying?

This is just what I didn't want.

What are we going to do with you belligerant boys?

Hey, Leo, this is Hootoo! What did you expect? Topics drift, arguments happen, and all that kinda stuff.
When it comes down to it, though, this *is* a community, and, even though we may disagree, or whatever, we are still part of it.

*sigh* I know. Until there's a suicide. But the real point is to hear where people have travelled. I'd also like to know why.
I mean, some people have hinted that they travelled to these places when they were pretty young, (like Amsterdam which I know is in Holland or the Netherlands, whichever you prefer,)
Is it just for vacation, or is it business too? Cuz if its vacation, well then you guys in Europe must have an awful lot of it. As far as I know we get only 2 weeks for the whole year here in the USA.
(and those of us working our tails off to realize the American dream, its zero days.)
Sooo. how much vacation do you guys have?

Typically, a full-time office worker would expect 20 days (4 weeks) paid holiday per annum, as well as 11 public holidays. That's a base level. As I understand it, in the us that would be 10 days, but with more public holidays? (How many do you get?)
A senior manager would expect 30 days paid holiday.
Don't know what the standards are outside office-type work.

I'd just like to point out that earlier today, Blatherskite the Mugwump characterised himself as:
"Big Dog is a bully who doesn't hesitate to use his superior strength to intimidate other combatants. Big Dog may be smart, articulate or just plain mean, but in any case he is a remorseless fighter, brutally ripping into even the weakest of combatants."
So if I seem to be a bit assertive in my responses to him, that's the reason why.

they tell me we get more public holidays. I dont know. hold on while i ask my pop.
OK thanks for holding on so nicely.
he claims he gets one day for each of 8 holidays, but actaully I think he sometimes gets 2 days. (friday and monday.)
I used to think we were a nation of workaholics, now I know it. Gee... I 'm gonna move.
Can you acheive the American dream in Europe?
ATT Everyone: Where have you been? Where are you from?

Ah - so it's nothing to do with the fact that, according to your own self-characterisation, you're sitting there in fishnets and nothing else?
ATT Everyone: Where have you been? Where are you from?
Trin Tragula Posted Jul 30, 2004
Public holidays don't really count in terms of travel, since they are scattered around so much. And Europeans do get more holiday, on average ...
>>Can you acheive the American dream in Europe?<< What do you mean by the American dream? I mean, at this point in time - did it ever really exist outside of Hollywood in the 1950s?

ME? IN FISHNETS? *busy being scandalized*
a bathing suit, yes. Fishnets, no. And the bathing suit was under my clothes.
Are you refering to my income level, (currently $1700 for 2 months, and not much to brag about,) or my dressing habits? (relatively conservative, and DEFINITELY no FISHNETS!)

*shudder* I was trying not to think about that.

I thought it was a reference to a recent post of mine elsewhere...
Apparently its rather common to advertise what your are wearing, (or not.)
I think this thread has reached the 'juiced orange' stage.
Goodnight, and this time I mean it.
