>> How on earth did you find this? <<
It found me. Someone in my car club
musta been googling for info on rear
differentials systems and got fascinated
by the motorcycle display team that opens
the film. The police uniforms and the
complex acrobatics are kinda gay by
modern standards. But back in the 1930s
the notion of men in uniforms operating
machinery in daring displays was quite
in fashion because of the obvious marriage
of mechanics and military that led to WW2.
Back then machines and military power (best
realised in robotic forms) was the ultimate
in sexy.

The Art and Science of the Science of Art.
This visually spectacular piece brings the awe of Yosemite to HD youtube.
As a study in the range of light that can be captured, the science is also impressive.

…and the music isn't bad either!
I liked it!

A number of years ago I became fascinated with the differential after learning of the old Chinese invention known as the South Pointing Cart, which is basically a differential working in something like a reverse direction. I spent many hours (in my forties, I admit) building South Pointing Carts out of my old Lego gears.
Another fun time was had with the paper universal joint . . .

Speaking of South Pointing Carts, differentials, paper
U-joints and moebius strips - who remembers the 8 track
tape cartridge. Infinitely loopy.
Gotta get me one of these mobius scarves for the winter.

Doctor Who episode "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship" - surely I wasn't the only person to think this:

Not me. It's apples and orangutans to me.
Like boy bands and the Bach family, I'da
never made the connection without trying.
That said it was one of the best Dr Who episodes ever!
It expanded the Universe and all its possibilities and
it tied in with previous Silurian episodes nicely. The
special effects (riding the dinos) were spectacular and
giving them personalities was brilliantly sensitive.
Unhappily, the next episode (in spite of featuring the
great Ben Browder from Farscape and SG1) was a
pretty limp affair. Bits of High Noon meets Jonah Hex
with lots of stereotypes and moral ambiguity that had
the Doctor at a loss for a solution. Using suicide as a
moral resolution is hardly an endearing plot turn. And,
leaving a cyborg killer behind as a symbol of Justice
is well beyond the pail .
I wonder if they filmed that one last year when they
were in the US doing the 'death of the doctor' episode
but held it back knowing it wasn't quite up to snuff?
They were all just having too much fun 'on location'.
It had overtones of parodying an unnecessary Back To
The Future sequel. Browder was the only one taking
it seriously.
It was choppily edited and the dialog left much to be
desired. The highlight was the dialog with a horse
named Susan.

PS: I've forgotten what thread this is so I better
admit to being offtopic.
And possibly apologise for any spoilers.

That was way cool!
It would be nice to see a chronometer
and have the ability to control the speed
or search a specific date.
Oughta be one of them for the Middle East.
Nice find swl!
