Again, it is not dial up, yes I have a box with the lights on, it is broadband, yes we do know the difference.
I hope you get it this time, as I am running out of ways to answer the same question.

"My husband runs the It dept for granada tv, so credit us with knowing the difference."
Oh well then. That's settled. You're both computer experts.
Can we get back on to the point?
Telewest digbox users = can't access h2g2 anymore
If you're going to complain about personal vendettas, please forget it.
Read all the Threads about this damn topic before you post. It's a vital requirement.

Digibox users has no adverse effect on my broadband service, maybe digibox users had no adverse effect on anybodies broadband usage. Maybe your broadband usage was affected by something other than digibox users, re telewest braking their own rules on crowded junction boxes, maybe thats not the only thing they have broken their own rules on.

Oh and I have read all the threads on this topic that I could find, So why accuse me of not doing something, withoug even bothering to ask whether I have first.
The background is that there were 1 maybe 2 very annoying users, who happened to be digibox users. Ergo, stop all digibox users fom using h2g2.

Azahar I ment that you wouldn't have been able to point aka and say his responsibility. Or maybe his responsibility as none of us can know for certain what caused telewest's decision. You would have been saying it was unfair no doubt, but would you have been as angry about it ?
And certainly aka could have remained entirly blameless in your eyes. If its the case that he didn't even think of avoiding ownership of his portion of the responsibility then he is a more honest person than most I have ever eencountered and should be applauded for that, just as much as if it was a concious decision to accept the flack currently heading in his direction.

Ok. There were only one or two annoying digibox users who annoyed me.
But hell, they had tonnes of multiple accounts!

...and Math's got a good point too. At least Aka's being transparent, (he must enjoy the scrapping )

Thanks for that link Mycelium, it brought me back in touch with an old friend. I didn't realise how this was going to affect him.

I have made a point of reading all the threads in this damn topic over the last few days. My stance is based on what I have read. The question of the 'legality' of digibox users accessing h2g2 really is not 'the point'. That is now, merely a matter of fact and no longer accessible. Whether or not h2g2 knew of the legality of the digibox users access is at least remiss and indeed a little hard to believe, but is of no consequence to me, and I certainly have no desire to see h2g2 strung up for their inaction. I was making a point, based on what you purport to being your reasons for bringing this matter to Telewests attention. I've already written elsewhere on what I think of your role in this subject and don't wish to repeat myself in numerous threads.

Now I'm not enough of computer person to know if this is doable or not, but could a proxy server be set up on an allowed url to allow digibox users to get around /dna/h2g2 being a forbiden url ?
If a thing is problem look for solutions not blame.

I don't know, but clearly they can access some urls, if one of those could be set up as a proxy...
I really don't have enough technical knowledge to look for solutions, but according to what I have read thats how people a getting around the PRC's firewall (the great firewall of china) so I figured maybe something similar could be used in this, maybe it cannot, but I don't know the answer.

Nice and toasty in here isn't it?
I'm not going to get into the right and wrongs of what's been done, or into whether digibox users are/were productive members of the community or not. It's been done now, and I don't believe it's reversible, so no point crying over spilt milk.
I would just like to point out in passing (re the first post) that hootoo existed prior to digibox users, so will probably survive their withdrawal.
However, on a point of clarification, there is some sort of chatroom thingy for digibox people to use as part of their service, no? Yoome2 or something similar? Is it not possible for those hootoo users who want to talk to digibox people to do so on that site? And if so would that not solve the problem?

"it seems that Member missed the point. It isn't about Telewest suddenly changing their service."
Perhaps it should be, because that's the only thing that's actually changed.
"It's about them suddenly doing this because you and Saturnine made them aware of this because of a personal vendetta."
Isn't what caused the service to end beside the point?
And if it isn't, might I suggest that the real reason people are annoyed is that Sat and aka actually managed to get something DONE. They didn't get mad, they got even, and they had the guts to admit it.
Personally, and with little knowledge of the situation, I'm quite impressed. But I reiterate - anyone moaning is being churlish. These people were getting something they were not entitled to, and they should be grateful it lasted this long. How and why it stopped is irrelevant. If they want to continue here, they all can, if they choose.
Meantime, if you don't like what Sat and aka did - ignore them. Put them on your s**t list. But don't try to pretend they did something underhand or wrong. Their motives may not have been of the purest, but they've done nothing objectively wrong - and I can say that as a completely disinterested observer.
Key: Complain about this post
