You know, I'm sure I've heard that somewhere before.

StrontiumDog - that's true but he had a design for a proper (mechanical) computer which would have even run software (in a certain sense), only he couldn't build it because the engineering techniques of the day weren't up to it. Or so I've been told, I'm no expert.

There's nothing preventing digiboxers from accessing h2g2 - AS LONG AS THEY DO IT THROUGH INTERNET ACCESS THAT LETS THEM. Just because you pay your license doesn't mean you should get free internet. Thus you choose what internet service you use, and the one you chose doesn't give you h2g2. That's YOUR choice, and YOUR problem.

sorry sea but thats total crap..........aka designed the loophole/magic email in the first place 2years ago, so he accessed h2g2 via a digibox himself then & after,so obviously that link has got around abit in 2years,but because he has problems with a certain few digibox users he wants to get rid of them completely, which isnt fair........he never asked rthe h2g2 community, because most of them are against it from wot ive seen...

In defense of Sat and aka they did warn the Community what they were up to

I know I was one of the most voiciferous opponents to what aka and Sat did but I really think it's time to let the trouble die down

too true, things have passed and digi box is back
but please don't be disillusioned into thinking 'they' let the community know what 'they' were going to do. they didn't, they confined any discussions they could to their personal spaces and carried out their action even when it was apparent the majority of h2g2 opposed it. hence this thread.

hi creachy,

Absolutely. I only heard about this issue *after* the dastardly deed had been done. And I'm sure this is the case with most of the h2g2 community.

And it was certainly not apparent that the majority of h2g2 opposed it. I would say only a vocal minority in fact, when you consider the total number of researchers, even allowing for the inactive ones.

Yes, perhaps that should have been "the majority of those who heard about it opposed it"...
Also, the access has been closed for the DNA sites, _not_ just h2g2...
Which brings us back to the point made previously [not that many postings ago I believe] regarding a decision made "in the name" of the whole DNA community but without many of its members even knowing about it...

Please, please, please can we just end this? It's all been said, that's why this conversation is nearly 700 posts long. It really isn't helpful having this argument regardless of who you think is right/wrong. I've never done this is the past but...
Key: Complain about this post
